What's the best oil for 7500 mile changes?
We just got the car about six months ago and I just did the first oil change and found that their was no a lot of options in the 5W-20 category. I'm going to have the oil analyized the next time I change it to see how the conventional oil held up with a 7500 mile change. I would like to run synthetic is there any recommendations for what oil to use?
Thanks,
Flick

The master of all Oils is our own "Road Rage".
I think he has covered this topic quite extensively in the "GARAGE" section
of the forum.
If I am mistaken here, I am sure one of our Moderators will direct you to the
proper postings on this subject.

As you mentioned, there are a lot of options and I know you'll get a lot of good opinions on the forum . I would use a good synthetic like Mobil 1 or Amsoil. I use Mobil 1 in my wife's minivan, change it every 6 months or 7500 miles and am comfortable with this schedule. Because my TL is leased, I use a good dino oil (proper weight and whatever's on sale) and follow the schedule the MID tells me. But IMHO synthetic is the way to go with ownership.

I like the branding of oils for special purposes I see on TV now. Can you imagine! We can pick from oil for old cars, oil for new cars, oil for SUVs, oil that help your car when you start it (VERY important!), import car oil, off the road oil, domestic car oil, 100,000 oil, racing oil, etc. Sort of like mustards when you go to the grocery store. All "label" marketing for cotton heads!

I couldn't agree more.
I often wonder what it's like down in the conference rooms of the marketing departments of engine oil manufacturers. A little dialog from a recent marketing meeting for Castrol.
Hmmmmmm..."Yes! That's it a special oil for those that drive their classic cars on weekends, Castrol new Syntec Weekend Formula"
