So I guess there are mixed reviews of the Craftsman and the Harbor Freight ones (I wouldn't even know about these if not for the Corvette forums). Anyone in the Bay Area know where I can buy a quality jack from besides Autozone, Kragen, Pep Boys, etc. I see a lot of 'good quality' jacks on line, but shipping is gonna kill! Anyone heard of Omega jacks?
I'm willing to spend a little bit of money on a good one... seeing as how my life could hang in the balance b/c of it (even with Jackstands). And also getting a bit off topic, anyone get a TL up on four jack stands?

I have, and so did pffpffpass, as you can see in the pic ^^^.

anyone?
thoughts on this torin low profile 3 1/2 ton jack? reliability, function, performance, etc. i'm not trying to break the bank on a jack that i would only use for regular maintenance. its main usage would be on the TL, but would also use it on other cars in the family including the RDX.

oh and for jack stands..thinking long term use, would it be better to get the ones that have a V-notch at the top or ones that have a flat top.
for reference only:V-notch LINK vs. flat LINK

Three Wheelin'
My friend had a Torin and it kinda failed after a year of abuse lol (leaking hydraulics). I like the arcan which is the one he picked up (the northern tool link I posted above) Even though it is a really long jack and kind of heavy it can get under some low cars. I like it because when you work on RWD vehicles and so on it has enough length to get to the diff or the front crossmember with the handle still on the outside. Sometimes you might need a little helper jack if your car is really slammed. Other than that its a great piece.

I actually went with a cheaper Jack... I was looking at Snap on and a lot of them are made in China still. The Craftsman have horrible reviews from Sears. I bought a crappy Harbor Freight Jack. I figured I'm going to use Jack stands anyways, so even if this fails I won't be under the jack alone. Plus, they have plenty of spare parts to fix this one. It's not so bad. I've heard those Omega jacks are no joke though either.
About the Torin Jacks, I guess they're ok, but can fail just like the Harbor Freight one I got.

Drifting
I have the same problem with my other car. even with a low profile racing jack, the jack pad is low, but the jack body is too tall to clear my front lip. I always use the front/center and rear/center jack points, so I always pull onto a scrap piece of 2x10 before I use my jack...

except mine is a 2.5 ton limit and is a low profile jack.
it was $100 add tax and a 10 dollar 1 year warranty, and it came out to 120
I bought it on friday to help aid with my suspension install.
so far, it works GREAT!!!!

I've got an AC Hydraulic DK13HLQ that I love. It was expensive, but worth it. Fits under my lowered civic with front spoiler with no problems. I use it for everything. I first saw it at SEMA about 7 years ago and just had to have it:

Dang! Prices went way up over the years. My wife paid $400 for it back then...
Of course that was back before we had kids, and before there were ANY low-profile jacks on the market.

I got this Jack from Tirerack. I love it. I think it is the same one Marcus uses too.

Here's a few active links to the one I've got. It's about 7 years old and works good.

Same here. Picked one up at Costco yesterday. I think it will lift from 3.5 to about 21.5 inches. Takes a bit more pumps to lift than the HF model but they were out of the HF one when I was looking and I wanted something to lift both the TL and the Pathfinder.

lol Same here, Craftsman 4 ton, not low profile......not lowered I have to raise the rear a tad to fit the jack's "hand" under a jacking point. I love it though, very sturdy jack, will get an entire side of the car raised in a few pumps.....makes tire rotating take about 10 minutes.

check for coupons on the aluminum low profile floor jacks from harbor freight. they are ALWAYS on sale. my brother picked one up for me when we did the RSB install along with a set of jack stands. i think i have the 3ton or 2.5 ton alumnium floor jack. worked fine. the jack stands you can get for stupid cheap as well. those were 3 ton stands.
