What would you do in this situation?
I just have a question for you TL buyers out there on what you would do in my situation. Sorry for the long post.
I live in Dallas and all of the dealers in my area have pretty crappy deals on the TL I want (Anthracite/Ebony/Auto/Nav). So I decided to contact dealers in Houston and Austin for a better deal. A delaership in Austin verbally agreed with me on Friday(Oct 8) to sell me a car at 33,500. This was with the General Sales Manager. This is pretty damm good in my area and I wanted to sign that deal right away so I said lets do it. Ive been offering 33,400 to all delaerships. So teh GSM said he would have another salesperson call my Mon or Tue. As I said this was a verbal agreement on Friday evening. Another salesperson called me Monday from the same dealership where I explained what went down Friday and he agreed to get my paperwork with these numbers on it, and allow me to put a deposit down to get things final. Verbal agreemtns arent worth anything in this field as we all know. So, Tuesday rolls around and its getting close to 6PM and I havnt heard from them.
At about 5PM on Tuesday I talked to another dealership in Oklahoma who is positioned the same distance from me as Austin but in another state of course. Not only does he accept my offer of 33,400 but he's ready to draw up the paperwork now with a 1000 dollar "non-refundable" deposit. The only thing I need to do outside of this deal is do the TTL on my own where I live so it literally is 33, 400. I was impressed on how fast they wanted do the deal and I was ready to go. I could have teh car by Oct 27th). Austin Said they would get theirs a little sooner.
Anyway, I tell my wife that the OKC delaership is ready to rock and roll while the Austin one hasnt called me since Monday and I dont know what going on. she says (She's not the car dealer like I am) dont accept the OKC yet and just call Auston back to tell them. Well I did. To make a longer story short, they didnt want to sell to me for 33,400 (The GSM was a little bewildered) since we had a verbal agreement but they will still sell it to me for 33,500.
Are you still with me?
My question for readers still here is
A)Should I tell Austin, I know we had a verbal agreement, but the OKC deal is better by 100 dollars and they moved quick wheras you guys were a little slow.
The OKC dealership is in another state but the same driving distance and I just need to make a trip to the Texas DPS to pay TTL myself. They were quick and very eager to sell me the car.
or
B)Honor my verbal agreement, pay only a 500 dollar deposit instead of 1000. So far this delaerships GSM and the new salesman have been pretty cool THOUGH, they waited to actually get the ball rolling until I told them about the OKC deal. But my perception was that maybe they were holding me off to find a higher paying customer for the very car they said they would reserve for me. Of course this is just speculation..
FYI. I already made a choice which I will tell you a little later. Im just want to get some opinons.
Thanks!

which dealer in austin? David McDavid? I just moved to OKC from Austin and when I bought my TL, I went to Plano, TX. The dealer here in OKC is a little weird but I guess they can be since the are the only Acura dealer in the whole city (next closest is in Tulsa). At least in Austin there is less incentive for the dealership to screw you since there is now another dealer in the area.

I know you checked in Dallas, but have you pinged Mac Churchill Acura in Fort Worth? I've bought two cars from them and they always shoot straight, and strive to meet or beat other dealership's offers. Their phone number is 817-232-2872 and the sales consultant I dealt with is Carlo Guerrera. I bought a used TL-S and Mac Churchill himself made a point to come and thank me for my business - pleasantly surprised me...
P.S. - There is one character at that dealership that you should be aware of, and unfortunately, he's the sales manager. Typical agressive "closer," but if you hold your own he'll usually buckle. :-)

Yes I did call them. I spoke to John Torres who I THINK might have been A sales manager. anyway, his best offer was 34200. He said the extra costs over what I was wanting to pay was for the Acura protection package which I wasnt interested in. So yes I did try
Anyway, based on my predicament here, I went with the Acura delaership in Austin. When it comes to spedning money, I usually think with my head over my heart but since I did agree to go with them I went ahead and agreed to finish the deal. Still, we'll see how final it is tomorrow morning whan I should be getting a writen agreement.
Thanks everyone for you responses. It looks like I picked what so far 100% of the people said I should do.

I'm in wichita, kansas... what's the name of the guy in OKC you talked to that would do 33,500? I have an offer with the dealer here for 33,500, and they want 34,000. Was the dealership in OKC was Bob Howard?
go with the cheaper price. Besides, those guys never called you back.
as the old expression goes, you snooze, you loose!!!
I would not tell them you got a better deal. If they ever call back, tell them that you waiting a few days and when they didn't call back you went elsewhere. If a dealer doesn't have the respect to call you back to sell a car (when they are making money) imagine how they will treat you later for a service or warrenty call (when they are making no money)!
PS> sorry, I know my reply is a little late but wanted to add my thoughts since it does not match the majority here.

I just might have to do that. Its almost 12:00 and I still have no paperwork and the OKC dealer has already left me a message. Austin hasnt called at all.

UPDATE: I went with OKC. The Austin dealer just waited and waited to send me the offer via fax and I just had to tell the OKC dealer I'm going with them. If you have an offer in one hand and nothing in the other and its time to make a decision, you have to go with the more concrete deal.
