It would have been good to get pictures of the chips lying on the ground. Then, I'd *calmly* ask them to take care of the damage or you will sue them. If they say, "Go ahead and sue us," then follow through with the threat. With the pictures, you should have a pretty strong case.

There is no excuse for that damage. Good luck.

Man that sucks. My guess it was the G-d d-mn air tools in the hands of an idiot. Spinning off your lugs way to fast. If they absolutely will not budge then you can always take them to small claims court if the damage is in the $ range for your state. If you had someone who really could honestly attest to the fact that they were not damaged prior to going to the shop that would really help.

In the end it comes down to who the judge believes. If you are an upstanding citizen and they have a boatload of consumer complaints (not sure if that's "admissable") then who knows ?

the only proof i have is the one guy who works there saw the chip i picked up off the ground(he by the way is the only one that works there that agrees his co-workers did it). after i picked it up and showed the owners they would not let me back in the garage to look for more funny thing is he told me feel free to look arond.. that is until i found something. seeing as though the cops were there twice i figured i would stay out of the garage and just wait.

I agree, you have pictures and if the management will not talk with you f... them and file a small claims court action , just to piss them off.

They use those damm impact wrench again and that is the reason they chipped the wheel in that area.

Take pictures, get a claim with small claim court.

Do not rely on that employee to be a witness for you in small claims court as it would cost him his job.

If you have any consumer advocacy group in your area, contact them and ask their their help in to preparing the claim/court case. Be prepared with pictures, copy of the invoice from the garage who installed the suspension when the damaged happened, cost to get the wheel repaired or replaced if they cant's be fixed.

Best regards

If you charged it on a visa or master card , call the card people and tell them you are not satisfied they will then investigate and you will not be billed , shops hate that to because they might not have the chance to deal with visa or any cards , in any case twist thier heads off till you get it your way . good luck!

well i went back today so they could finish my car. the owner came out to help work on the car and chipped the rim even more. now he says he will replace one rim. only one was shipped real bad the others are more or less scratched on the inside where the lugs go. the touch up job they did looks worse than the damn scratches did. thought eh drop looks ok it wasnt worth the headache. this is my last mod.. im selling this car as soon as i can and buying a benz. bmw or audi A8.. and im leaving them stock. 4000 miles and im done with it. this is my second 05 tl in 8 months...tiem for a new hobby.

I guess you could expect this kind of response after you ask for our input on how to handle the damage done to your wheels by that garage and then you just drop that you are not going to fight for your rights and end up buying a European Car as replacement.

Nobody here can fight this for you and it is your decision if you want to pursue to get the wheel damages repaired/replaced.

I know that I would fight it like a shark, the garage damage my car, they will pay.

As I pointed out, not all mechanics are careless but some are really bad. They should have taken the extra precaution by removing the lug nuts with a ratchet and not with the impact wrench and then install them back with a torque wrench amd not a torque rod equipped impact wrench. It would have taken maybe another 1/2 hours overall with the job but no damages would have come to your wheels.

I just had chromed version of the TL OEM 17" wheels installed last friday and I demanded that the wheel's lug nuts be removed manually and the re-installed manually. The service guy at the tire shop did a very nice job and took care of not scratching the wheels. Once the job was done, I gave him a $10 tip.

Enjoy your future european ride

Did you turn over your car keys to the shop when they took your car in? If so, there is a concept in law called bailment which basically they assumed liability for your vehicle. This does, indeed, mean that they are responsible for the welfare and safe keeping of your car and if damaged must make it "whole" again.

Good luck.

That's BS they are resonsible. They might not be if something was stolen from the vehicle and you can still dispute that. But if they removed the tires and say they have no responsibility and then called the police... Sounds like you rather freaked out at them. But I do not blame you...

Maybe you should say you are not responsible for payment as well. One reason to put it all on a credit card or check and then stop payment. I would report them to the typical consumer agencies and maybe fill out a police report that they vandalized your car. Two can play that game...

sue them. I hate shady companies that don't take responsbility for what they have done.

This is the exact problem I had with a sears auto group when they messed-up both the tire and the rims during a flat repair and I'm still fighting the rims issue. Will get a new tire though...
