Talking What would you ask for?

I'll be picking up my car today (DMM, 5AT, NAV), but the dealer has promised me an "extra" of some sort because I'm picking up the car early to improve their March sales numbers (was scheduled to pick it up after I returned from a vacation, next month). I've already got the protection package thrown in.

What would you ask for?

Of course, I don't know how far I can push them on this, but it will be fun to try...

cheers,
derscott

Are you leasing or financing? Maybe you can ask for a better interest rate, or for them to drop the acquisition fee. Are you buying outright? Will they knock anything more off the price?

Sorry if this seems like an obvious suggestion, but if you haven't been to acura.com go check out the accessories there. Maybe you'll see something you really want that the dealer can throw in.

You might reasonably ask for the protection package: wheel locks, trunk tray, splash guards.

I agree, protection package could easily be a freebe. I got the spash guards and locks without much haggle at all...got the nose mask after a little bit more persuation. While these items have high retail, it costs them very little. A lot of the time, with dealer inventory anyway (like in my case) they've already installed the splash guards and locks so it costs them more to take them off than to give them away.

But like godfreyl said...go for the protection package. It's stuff you can use that is relatively cheap for the dealer.

ask for stuff that don't cost him that much but is nice to have. all weather mats, wheel locks, and trunk tray are easy to get items. ask if he will throw those in. if you were to pay for those it would be close to 300.

He said he has the protection package thrown in already.

No one mention free oil changes, so maybe you can try that too.

Oil changes ? You can do it yourself using Mobil 1 full synthetic oil plus a Bosch synthetic fiber filter for around $25

Acura will use dino oil, if you use that and do it yourself you are looking at saving $12. Not really worth the effort of going there and waiting for them to do it

Well, it turned out pretty good. I got them to renegotiate my loan rate (I was going to buy the car outright, but the rates are sooo good right now, I come out ahead by investing the money elsewhere) and ended up with a 3.5% rate (down from 3.85%. hey, it's something...). I got them to throw in my first 10 oil changes. I also got them to give me the environmental "protection" paint treatment (basically it's just a teflon solution), which was a "$500" value. They also offered to give me the wooden shift knob (I have the parchment interior), but I didn't really like the look of it.

All in all, a pretty good experience. I heard a lot of "yes, sir" and "thank you sir" and they kept trying to drown me in free soda. Very fun...

Now, I'm off to Hilton Head for a few days of golfing fun.

cheers,
derscott

PS: I LOVE my car! The Nav is super sweet.
