We've tried it both ways and it just doesn't work. I am in another forum where you can edit anytime, but it is a different type of forum and we have no problems there.

But in this forum, if we allow longer edit time, then people would post something, then they didn't like a reply they got so they changed their original post, and then nothing made sense. Or they would add something to clarify after another member posted that he didn't understand, instead of making a new post.

Look at some of the really argumentative threads running now, and imagine if people could edit anytime.

I think the board is doing great stuff. I would not be driving my TL I love so much if it had not been for the research done on this board.

But for the love of God and all that is civil in the world, puleeze add a spell check option! When I re-read some of my posts and see my typos, I wish I could blame my brother Darryl,,,,or my OTHER brother Darryl.

Oh well, guess that is the side effect of posting at work, with 3 PCs on my desk, headset on, speaker phone babbling and people standing outside my office in the usual state of shock and awe.

Spell check is good, but it doesn't help with the following:
My break pads are wearing out too soon
If your going to do this, do it right
I can't here a thing you are saying
And a hole bunch more

And if you don't know what's wrong with the above examples, you need more than spell check

Maybe grammar check would help.

Seriously though, some people should really write what the want to say in MS Word first, run spell and grammar check, then copy the result into their thread post before posting. My

And you know who you are!

Is there anyway to allow edits anytime on certain sub forums like black market? It would be nice to be able to say ok this is sold now in the very first msg.

Also definitely more PM archive would be great.

I also don't know why sometimes the thread can be moved and yet other times it's locked down because you can't move it.

If you post "SOLD" in a thread in the Black Market, I or another mod will close it and marked it sold, usually within a couple of hours of the posting.

Can't help you on the PM archive. Anything to do with the computer has been asked before, but the admins are limited by their equipment and money as to what they can provide for us. Something as simple as 3 letter word searches would cost money and computer space, so it hasn't been done although it would be nice. There is talk about doing something with google to search our forums, but it hasn't happened yet.

We can only move threads within the TL forums, so if someone posted in 3G and it should have been in 1G or 2G, we can move it, but we cannot move beteen major forums, such as CL, TSX, Ramblings, Car Talk, etc, so that's why you sometimes see a thread moved and other times it is closed and usually you are directed to repost in the proper forum if you want to.

For all you guys that want a spell checker (and use internet explorer, though it may work for other systems too)..

Download "ieSpell" - it integrates into explorer and works like a charm. The "google" toolbar also has a built in spell checker.

Both work quite well for forum chat and any other website spelling needs etc.

As for the forum and changes.... I agree the mods do pretty good but when it comes to locking threads and "disciplining" disgruntled members, consistency is key. What may appear fun to some members is highly discouraging to others. Professionalism and "respect" are critical to maintaining any "society". If we focus on those two traits when policing the forum (not to mention when replying/posting), it would benefit all.
-- Speaking of professionalism,,, In the past, profanity was frowned upon and folks and or threads were "corrected" when required. Censorship is one thing but allowing folks to drop the "F" bomb etc. in near all their posts is unnecessary. If you really want to "control/mitigate" the flaming, childish and vengeful diatribes, a start could be by controlling some of the insightful language. It doesn't happen all that often, but when it does it should be handled swiftly and consistently.

Cheers

To me it sounds like your the one that cant take constructive criticism. There are people bringing up ideas and some are good and some are bad. Dont take it personally. Its sad that what has become my favorite forum has just been exposed by one of the moderators as a place of intolerance and superiority.

If noobs like me come here and ask stupid questions its because we dont know the answer and half the items you search are too common and the search is rejected then you have to wait a minute to research the topic with different terms. All the while not finding the respository of information you want when another poster likely know exactly where the thread/article is. Why not ask the question and see if somone out there can empathize with someone being new and want to help them? Whats the problem with that? Nope better yet flame the noob and send them to or acurainspired.

I have a suggestion. How about not banning people for criticizing your forum and ban some people who think that new Acura users arent worthy to post topic.

Thumbs up

1. Stop monitoring critics against of Acura and bad Acura dealers.
2. Decrease moderator’s number. 50-80% of posts done by them.
3. I would prefer that some moderators create essentials list and contact Acura somehow with this questions to address them. Post reply’s from Acura if any.
4. If there is any technical discussion provides engineer type of opinion at least one time per post that people know what real situation with this particular problem is.
5. This is forum for people asking and discussing Acura cars not gey-lessbian-porno club of interests. I would like moderatos stop this instead of stopping real Acura talks.

I meant that if you have several items for sale and sold 2 of 5 let's say, then it would be nice to edit the original post and put a sold sign next to those items. And still have the other 3 items up for sale. This helps people not having to read all the way down to figure out something's sold if it's a long thread. It also helps the mods to not have to maintain that thread to help out the seller.

Thanks for the response. I love this forum.

If there are lots of items then I might go back up to the original post and mark the ones that are sold, depending on the situation. If I can identify them. Sometimes the poster will say he sold something that I can't find in the original post, but I try.

Ron,
I feel that this could be solved by allowing the thread opener to close the thread. The seller or thread opener would send the final SOLD post to thank everyone for the interest and then CLOSE the thread. Further inquiries to seller can be done via PM or a new thread.

I see your point, but I can think of too many reasons not to allow the members to close their threads.

I will be happy to continue this discussion with you by PM, but I think enough has been said about this in this thread, which is after all more concerned with suggestions and complaints than it is with back and forth replies.

I can only say that I am sure management is looking at this thread and will consider what is being suggested when making future changes. If they are not looking, I will bring it to their attention, but it won't be necessary because they monitor all these forums continuously.

Attn: Ron.

I think that you could use a little more money for your forum so I am willing to offer up a pot of money.

I would like to smash a few of your moderators and think that the most fair way to do this would be for charity. I figure that I could put 1 or 2 thousand in a paypal account, you match it, and I get to beat on a few of your moderators.

In fact I would be willing to deal with Ken and Mike at the same time! Everyone is happy, you get some cash for your site, I get to beat up on a few e-fags.

Thoughts? Feel free to PM me.

Remember IP bans dont work on people with a little internet ingenuity.

(Hey if you want you can join in on the fun I wouldnt mind smacking you back into reality)

Oh, ummm what would make these forums better? Mods that dont live their lives through the internet. I realize that some dont have anything tangible to be proud of, but come on, we could get them hookers!

Great site!! Im still new but getting use to it day by day. Only thing that drives me crazy is the lack of manage attachments icon in the reply page. I use this site about 95% of the time when at work and only 5% when at home. At work we have firewalls in place that will not allow me to upload images to an image place like image shack. So for me, I cant see about 90% of the pictures that are posted on this site, all I see are red X. Now that sucks. Easy way to up load pics that are less than 150k in size would be great!! Thanks, AZ.

Let me give my ideas:

1. 5$/yr membership fee (more funds mean more features, plus it will keep trolls/non-serious people away). I dont think 5$ is too much to ask, 10$ would be ok too...

2. more PM space, 50 is just ridiculous. Make it atleast 100...

3. possibility to edit threads without a time limit

4. FAQ/DIY forums

5. Ask a lawyer/Ask a cop/Ask an Acura tech forums

6. ACURAzine online store

7. picture attachment

8. dedicated gallery/space for each member (to post pictures of the ride, modifications, owner info, etc)

IMO that would make the site MUCH better!

What would make this better??? Free beer, comfy sofas, Hooter girls. Hey wait a minute, after some thought it doesn't get any better. This forum hosts a open and intelligent option for people looking to offer opinions and seek information. Leave it as is. It's an open forum with receptive moderators, exactly what I want (well except for the Hooter girls).

One suggestion to improve the forums is to make the 3G Garage and TSB a subcategory or an easy to find sticky in the 3G forums. I had to bookmark these threads because I can never find them.

Just off the top of my head...

...how about a free 60Gb iPod for the person who posts the (and again, this is just a random number) 94th posting on this thread?

Just wanted to add that I enjoy Acurazine quite a bit and learn a lot from everyone here.

My only gripe is that I have to wait 60 seconds between searches. Not sure why this is...but in situations where I mis-search...I can't just go back and search without having to wait for no apparent reason.

Just a thought on a minor nuisance on this site. Overall, great job to the mods!

i think this forum needs a DIY section lol theres so much helpful informatioin scattered through out the forum and the search function can some times be a pain in the ass and work like a piece of shit lol........i also think we should have different sections in the "meet" section like they have over at V6P.net....it would keep things alot neater and alot better to keep track of

anyone else agree with me about the meets section???

**oh yea and we should all get FREE acurazine decals to promote our web site lol id agree with @cur@-tl (justin) on the $5 fee or maybe even $10 a year to make that happen!!....we all work and im sure it would be appreciated by the mods to help get those decals out and expand the web space so we can add more to this wonderful site **
