What are those blue lights by the homelink buttons?

I noticed them recently only when my headlights are on. There are 2 blue led lights coming from close to the homelink buttons. What is the purpose?

lights so your passenger can probably look at a map...bright enough to make out words but not mess with your night vision

That's for your auto dimming rear view mirror.

I've been meaning to look for the answer to this because I've been curious about it too. I don't think it's a map light, it's really not bright enough. You barely notice it unless you put something beneath it. And someone mentioned it's just for looks, I might agree.. since I noticed that blue color is a theme in the car. It matches the blue on the volume/scan knobs of the stereo. If I get a chance I'll try to look in the manual for it.

I think it's just for looks, too. My Civic has one of those blue lights, but it just has the sunroof button and the mic (for the voice commands), and not the homelink.

I think it's to shed some light on the shifter.

It produces a very low level of blue light to "wash over" the center console at night. I happen to love it. Seriously, I think it is one of the coolest night mode interior lighting schemes I have ever seen.

Since I didn't happen to drive after dark for a while after getting my car (no particular reason), it was a really nice surprise to see it.

Adobeman hit the nail on the head. My salesman showed it to me when I test drove the TL. It matches better when you replace the interior lights with the blue LED's. I wish I could take pics, but my camera is not that sophisticated. They totally match the rest of the blue lighting.

I also replaced my interior lights with blue led's. Looks awesome at night with the doors open!!! Lights inside are just to wash the console for a cool effect rather than just white!

The blue LEDs are called "mood" lights. Mood like moodie blues.

I actually went to a Moody Blues concert when I was 15. I was the youngest person there by about 30 years. It was a pretty good show, I really like their music.

And now back on topic.

I love those lights at night on a dark stretch of highway. That's when u really notice it. It casts a nice blue hue to the interior of the car.

That's the "interior ambient lighting" if you see it in the specifications. gently lights up the shifter and console.

No...I use them too....They are useful! They illimmunate the center console/cup holder area well enough for you to able to spot any thing in the night w/o turning the lights on.

I was so glad the TL had these. The BMW 7 has them, too, and I've always liked the feature. In fact, I added similar lights (but red) to my wife's Yukon as a way of illuminating the center area of the dash and floor. I installed an XM receiver and it's backlighting wasn't good enough, so the LEDs really help that.

Yes, they are a very nice touch. Just goes to show how much the little details enhance the luxury high-tech feel of the TL.

I'm not so sure about the 07 Type S though. Red lighting seems too harsh to me.

bluenoise is correct. It's mostly for show. I had an 03 330i before I got mine and it had orange lights there. I'm pretty sure it's acura copying an effect from the euros. I like it!

is it a matter of popping the white bulbs out and the new ones in?

It is to get a blue on the center consol and for the ambiance. It has no function as I understand it. For reading you have map lights on driver and passenger sides. I love this blue and everybody who sat in my car at night.

Moody Blues.....in their day, one of the best bands ever. I saw them when I was 18, and they were old and tired compared to their original work.....especially if you are lucky enough to have parents with vinyl records and a good audiophile stereo system to hear what they used to sound like in the studio. Best appreciated late at night in an "altered" state of mind. Knights in White Satin is a classic.

The lights in my TL bring back memories of the lighting during their concert...it was exactly the same shade of blue they used.
