What is a-spec ? Please explain

I have been on these forms for a while now.. and I never fully understood what a-spec was. I thought the car had either AT or Manual, Manual with or w/o high perf tires & both cars w/o navi... so what is a-spec?

A-Spec is a dealer installed package that includes the following (04 TL info):
-Stiffer shocks and spring setup (lowers the car about .5 to .75 inch)
-Ground-effects kit
-Thicker steering wheel (with blue stitching)
-18x8.5 gunmetal wheels
-A-Spec badge

Retails for anywhere between $3400 to $6000 (installed)

If you do a search on this, you can find info in much more detail. Hope this helps.

1 inch = 2.54 cm.

Therefore, .5 inch = 1.27 cm.

A-Spec is not worth it!

IMO, A-Spec is not worth the money the dealers charge you. It's mostly cosmetic and hardly improves performance! I'd rather add a few grand and get the new RL instead

There are good arguments on it. Here are some threads, they make for some interesting reading (IMO):

Agree that many dealers overcharge...buyer beware.

Indeed, cosmetic changes are a big (and subjectively received) part of the package. Of course, no one here is interested in improving their car's appearance. :P

The performance improvements are significant and have been noted in every review I've read. Several glowing reviews have been posted in this forum by members who drove their TL's on stock suspensions for weeks or months prior to upgrading - putting them is a very good position to comment on before/after characteristics.

Open that.
Basic SSM TL

Turn on Front, Rear and Decklid on the left and Side Under Body on the right.
Now you have a full A-Spec Body Kit.

Then also turn on 18" Alloy wheels on the bottom left and you have an A-Spec as far as exterior mods go.

Then swap the suspension and steering wheel and add the little badge on the back and you got a full A-spec Kit (for a 6 speed Manual)
The 5 Speed Auto also gets better brake pads
