If it is the one that glows in the dark thats there just in case you get locked in your trunk since a lot of people have died that way.

I think it is so you can put the back seats down from the trunk area.

it is there so you can open the trunk in the event of an electrical failure. You may have also noticed there is no key hole on the outside of the trunk lid.

The back seats don't fold down in the TL.

if you open the pass thru to the trunk and stick your arm thru and pull the "mystery" lever the trunk will open.

Right under the sub is a handle in case of an electrical failure or in case of an accident.
The one on the trunk lid itself is incase someone gets stuffed into the trunk so they can get themslves out.
Another black plastic one on the edge of the trunk lid is so you can close it with your hands if they are dirty so you don't damage the paint.

I know what the handle does. If the OP actually sees that it opens the trunk then everything will be solved.

It is the pressure release valve. When you exert to much gas from driving too fast...the gas can accumulate and the air pressure from the inside could build up...so that is to release the FART Gas

No, that is the one in the deck lid near the place you grab to close the trunk. The one he is talking about is in the pass-through and as said in the intelligent replies (not to be confused with the other replies that weren't) if you pull it the trunk will open even if your battery is dead or disconnected.
