The cheapest oil around that is 5w30.

Doesn't make a difference.

Mobil 1 seems to be backordered on a number of their oils.

In my vehicles I use MOTUL. We've also had great experience with ENEOS.

Yeah, someone posted that there is a shortage due to hurricanes this summer. Apparently Mobil has this posted on their web site.

FWIW - I use "Synthetic" 5W30

far north drivers should run a 0 or 5w as the low number in winter -thats the viscosity at 32 degrees - for cold start protection. W= `WINTER` on the oil can label
see owner book for ambient temp/oil to use chart
the 20 or 30 is the viscosity at 200 degrees F

Good choice! In your climate no reason to go with the factory 5-20.

I just bought Castrol Syntec 5w-20. Is it not good enough? Why do people use other viscosity? like 5w30? is it better for the engine? please someone explain that to me. Acura recommends 5-20 so I'll just stick with that for now but I would like to know if it's better to use other types of oil.

I see this is somewhat of a sensative topic here. Is it becaues this has been discused here a million times or are some people pretty opinionated about their oil choice?

Word is 5W-20 provides a thinner/less robust film than 5W-30. Rumor says Acura used the 5W-20 to squeeze a little more EPA/CAFE MPG out of the car.

True? But it makes sense to me. Lower viscoisty = lower film friction = better economy.

I use Penzoil Platinum 5W-20

I'm not against using Mobil1, but since ExxonMobil made a net profit of almost $15 BILLION in the last quarter alone, I think they've got enough $$$$$ already without taking any more of mine.

FWIW

In the previous fiscal year XOM Net Profit was 10%. Shell (Royal Dutch Petroleum) was 9%. Chevron was 8.6%.

XOM doesn't make "excessive" profits - they just sell more than anybody else.

I've only had my 08 t.l. Demo for 6 weeks, but i flushed out what was in there, and went with 5w- 20 full synthetic pennzoil, along with pure one filter.
The car now has 8,000 miles on it.

Seems to be nice and clean, and i plan to change every 5,000 miles.
