What not to do when you change the oil...

What a good DIY... a nice oil change, the first of the new car. Anyway, the new oil is in, the filter is bran spanking new, and the car just came off the lift. I figure that I should start up the car and while it is running give the windows a nice windexing. All the windows are up and the car is running, I shut the door... and FUCK!!! all the doors are locked. I am that idiot who locked their keys in the car with it running.

Next I take a different car to my house to get the spare set. I grab the automatic starter with the lock/unlock function and head back to the shop. I try to unlock the door and it won't work because the key is in the ignition. Thank god the trunk would pop open. I crawl through the trunk and after a few attempts of trying to unlock the door I finally devise a plan to hit the sunroof button with a pipe, open the sunroof and use the pipe to unlock the doors. What a pain in the ass. So make sure that your doors are unlocked when you change the oil.

By the way... who was racing on the Major Deg. last night? Who ever it was flew past me like I was stopped and a Civic (?) I think was following you. I think both cars were blue. Either way... you two were moving!!!

The folding seat comes in handy in this scenerio. I hate the little pass through. Good job MacGyver.

Sorry to hear about that but it's pretty funny. Why don't you change your settings so that your doors are unlocked when your shifter is on park?

I had just rolled up the window to wash it. My car is set so that the doors are unlocked when it is in park... hence the total confusion when I found the door to be locked. I just realized right now that the car was in N and not P... I do wish I had a video of myself trying to break in...

I did that with my CL typeS, i was cleaning the interior, while listening to the radio, I accidently hit the door lock switch. Then I decided I was thirsty, so i closed the door out of habit and turns out it was locked [door was opened when i hit the switch]. Anyways, since i was home i just grabbed the spare key and put it in the keyhole turned and voila... I didn't have to do a circus act with opening the sunroof

the car was in Neutral so that I could roll it onto the lift. I did this so I wouldn't hit the door on the side of the lift.
Then I started up the car after the oil was in... Nevermind... I really don't know how it happened. I'm a moron I guess it is one of those things that I hope that I will never do again. At least I didn't get locked in my car. Did anyone see that family Guy clip when Peter locked himself in the car??? Family Guy FTW!!!

I see people FLYING down Deegan and Cross Bronx all the time!! Right in the middle of heavy stop/go traffic and on heavy potholes. I don't understand the point? Raping the car by killing the brakes and bending the rims, not to mention dangerous to everyone on the road with all the congestion. If they want to let er rip they should go north up into 6-84, Taconic or Saw Mill. It's better for their car and if they run off the road it will only be 1 fatality.

Is Acura missing an anti-lockout feature? I haven't tested on our TL, but on all my other cars, if the driver's door is open with the key in the ignition (regardless what gear the tranny is in), the power door lock switch does not work. Any attempt to lock the door, will result in the door either not locking at all, or the door locking then immediately unlocking.

I'm still asking myself if he had the spare key, why didn't you open the door with the key?? even if you do have the "shaved lock mod", it takes a small flathead, and 5 seconds to pry that out and stick the key in. i dunno....
opening moonroof with a pipe thru the rear seat pass thru. LMAO i wish you would've taken a video.
You live and you learn! No harm and car is still running.

always roll down the driver window regardless of anything. First rule of workin on any car so it prevents things like this happening. At least you learned from it.

Don't feel bad. I did this in the parking lot of a McDonalds in VA while traveling to visit family in PA last year in a borrowed Ford Econoline van. I simply got distracted. Fortunately someone going through the drive-thru saw my dilemna and used a lock jimmy he happened to be carrying (I didn't ask any questions) to get me back in. I gave him a $20 for his troubles. It sure saved me time, aggravation and a higher bill from someone else.

I might be mistaken but My 08 won't lock the driver's door if the key is in the ignition and there is nobody in the seat... That's pretty tricky though, using a pipe to get in the door. Kudos!

I don't think that I will ever know why this happened... I didn't have the spare key, I only had the remote starter. If I had the spare key I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have had to go through the trunk...

that makes sense. I think everyone thought that you DID have the key.
Good thing you thought of opening the sunroof.
I would've never thought of that.
You couldve called Acura Roadside

Still makes me wonder why the door decided to lock.
