What is a headliner

I'm experiencing my first rattle, kind of a "slapping thud" under certain road conditions with sharp bumps. It is happening on the passenger side but I haven't located it exactly.

I see people talking about rattles near the headliner. I'm not familiar with that term. What area is that specifically?

Thanks in advance.

The interior ceiling is your headliner, typically cloth with foam underneath, and it can also include your overhead console area by some peoples definition.
