What Has Your TL Been Mistaken For?

Hello,

I was in the parking lot today and a man asked how I liked my BMW?? I didn't now what to say. Do people often confuse your Tl?

One of my neighbors thought it was a Buick. Interestingly, Buicks are the car of choice in my neighborhood.

That's funny. Maybe they just assume that everyone has a car, most of them are buicks, you must have a buick. Idiot logic.

Most people I've run into just ask, "what kind of car is that?" They don't really seem to have a clue. Of course, I live off the beaten path in a little logging town in Western Washington. Not many new TLs in town, as a matter of fact I think there is only one more in town and I think it may be an 04 in that gold color. Have seen it at the local YMCA.

And what if you have the license plate holder on there?

look at the back. The A could also not stand for: BMW, Buic, Mazda, etc. C'mon, how dumb can people be. At least ask what type of car it is before mistaking an A for a Propeller(BMW) or an M.

This person in the parking lot said to me. Man! nice car, I wish I could afford a TSX. I guess the mistake is understandable since the front looks the same.

I have my plate off, but also have a large "A" about the size of the bottom of a coke can on my car, how bout you?

I wouldn't be thinking it was anything but an Acura, but people are really that fucken clueless, when I had my Teg back in 95, some old ass thought it was a Ferrari, I guess because it was low and loud.

I wish i would have counted how many times my TL has been called a TSX. It would be near 100.

The other half simply dont know what it is.

I don't have a problem with people recognizing the TL.

My other car is called everything from a Corvette to a Ferrari.

a honda?

Lot's of people have absolutely no clue what the tl is. Most ask if it's a new kind of honda. But I'm 150 miles away from an acura dealer, so people dont' often see them.

I've heard that quite a few times....from Lexus drivers! So, I'm like, "I love it! How's that Toyota of yours holding up these days?"

Daughter's Impression

In a KFC parking lot, my six-year-old daughter commented that my RRP TL looked exactly like the car parked next to it. Unfortunately it was a olive drab one of these.

Man, that's harsh, but she is only six. On the upside, she's still at the age where they listen and want to learn...take this opportunity to teach her all about cars.

As for me, most people know it's a TL. Of course, that doesn't mean they're smart...I had a guy come up to me the other week and go on and on about how he liked the new TL, blah, blah, blah...and then he says "...with those lines, it looks like a BMW." Ignorant bastard.

I had a guy bend down read the back of the car, and then ask, "What kinda car is this"? I told him it was a Honda...

The best is when you see people purposely slowing down in traffic to get a look at the back end of the car (to read the model information). I enjoy that, especially since my car is debadged, they just speed up and try to look at the front after that.....I usually give em a taste of VTEC about that point!!

When I was getting my TL tinted the guy was comparing it to a BMW 5 series... I had the mix emotion of it being a compliment and an insult... but I digress...

Some people are just too funny. In my Pontiac GTP, I had a guy come up to me, and said, "I really like your Gih Tup" I was like, "gih tup?" And he said, "Yeah, your pontiac gih tup", as he pointed to the GTP badge on my doors. I guess he was pronouncing GTP....

I wonder what he would've called our TL

Okay. I can understand not knowing cars and such...but..that's borderline inexcusable.

Bimmer, Dood!

First of all, my black TL is always highly polished with Zaino. I don't leave the garage without it. So... it draws a lot of attention.

Most often, people compare it with a BMW but then, after walking around it in a parking lot, whistling, they smile and tell me it looks better than a BMW.

But BMW is the marque that pops into their mouth most often- even if they are not confused.

I've seen a couple of TLs that were barely recognizable, but they had conversions from other cars, such as skyline and gs300 rear light conversions.. otherwise, the TL is as common as a Civic here in Los Angeles..

My cousin said it looked like a bimmer (but did not mistake it to be one). I guess this is because the TL has european styling.

Just waiting for my TL to be confused as a BMW

If I ever get into that situation, I will simply answer "Yes it is a BMW but that idiot dealer forgot to take off the Acura nameplate and put on BMW's!".
