The lower the gear, the faster the engine turns, in revolutions per minute (rpms), for a given road speed.
The faster the engine turns, the more power it makes, but it uses more gas while doing so.
Sport shift mode is usually used to keep the engine in a lower gear when you are not on the gas, such as when rounding a curve. Then, the power of that engine speed is instantly available when you hit the gas again.
Keeping it in a gear lower than the normal automatic mode would normally select also slows the car down more when you are not on the gas.
Just play with it to see how these effects work. With an Automatic, the computer won't let you over-rev the engine, so you can't hurt it. With a manual, you have to be careful not to downshift to a gear that will cause the engine rpms to go over redline.
Have fun!!

Whatever gear keeps your engine around 3000rpm for the given speed of the road you are climbing. Keeping it in sportshift mode isnt a bad idea because it will keep the car from upshifting unessesarily. On the other hand with the gradelogic controller I believe even in full auto mode the computer should detect the incline and maintain an appropriate gear for the level of incline and speed. My suggestion is go play on a slope and see what happens!

You can put in in D4 instead of D5 to keep it out of overdrive and it will use 3rd and 4th as it needs.
