I've always read/heard that:

TL=Touring Luxury
RL=Road Luxury
CL=Coupe Luxury

As for TSX, RSX, NSX, and MDX, I have no idea. They may not stand for anything.

Not that it really matters, but my understanding is that TL stands for Total Luxury, while RL stands for Real Luxury. I recall seeing promotional materials from Acura that indicated as much.

In any event, whatever it means they don't promote it as standing for anything anymore.

TL stands for "Touring Luxury" as you will find this is a great trip car. It is capable for the reacers in us, but it's main purpose is to be luxurious in the short and long runs. I believe RL is "Refined Luxury" as the current RL's interior and ride is as close to Lexus as Acura can get for now as far as isolation. This can be good or bad depengin on how you look at it. RL is a nice old man's car. CL is "Coupe Luxury", well actually Cancelled Luxury now.

Anything with the X at the end is a sporty version. Whether it be sport car (NSX) sport utility (MDX and SLX) or sport sedan/coupe (TSX/RSX). I think TSX is "Touring Sport" while RSX could be "Racing Sport". I really have no idea about the others.

My girlfriend use to work at an Acura Dealership and during her training from Acura, they explained what these Acronyms meant. Again, TL=Total Luxury (Touring is not correct because the word touring word was adopted recently by the Japanese auto makers, but it could have changed from "Total to Touring" recently. RL=Royal Luxury, CL= Coup Luxury and RSX=Rally Sport.

Tl, Rl, Cl

Remeber the original Legend Model? My theory is that

RL = Real Legend
TL = Tiny Legend
CL = Crappy Legend (Just Kidding CL'ers )

Having worked for Honda dealerships that didnt know their butt from a hole in the ground I wouldn't take anything they said too seriously.

From Acura's websites, brochures and OFFICIAL (read non-dealership) representatives, there are 3 that have been explained.

RL = Road Luxury
TL = Touring Luxury
CL = Coupe Luxury

Anything else is speculation.

How about totally loose?
