What Did you Have Before Your 04 TL?

We also have an 01 MDX and have been very pleased with Acura. The only thing the TL gives up to the 330i is handling capability. So far I have no regrets.

88' Pontia Grand-Am. Options included: rust, manual windows and locks, shorted-out AM-FM radio (one channel working), driver's window broken, rear-passenger door would not open all the way, etc, etc, etc.
Needless to say, this was a step-up for me.

Re: Re: Here's another surprise for Smeezy...
The 55 was a great, fast car. I also had an older Accord EX to drive when I needed a 4-door. But I just got tired of not having a newer, nicer 4-door for clients. Other than pure HP and torque, the Benz had a few things the TL does not, Rain-sensing wipers, thick, thick, gorgiouspaint work, more supple leather, performance suspension. But it was also an $80K car when new (I bought it used). The TL has most of the things I need in a 4-door sedan (and then some). Really thought i would have gotten the new 5-series when it came out but the "cheapness plastic crap" from the 3-series has now encroached into the 5-line and it's simply not as good a car as the new TL. The Benz dealer did a LOT to try to keep me in a Merc but the $'s were simply too much for what I would have considered coparable to the TL (E500). In my mind the TL is as good as it gets right now for $35K fully loaded. With a few tweeks here or there, I can get it closer to a truer performance car (eibach suspension, CAI, headers, etc).

I'd love to get the 2004 S4, but its getting up there in price, and i just can't justify getting it right now.

2000 Prelude
A really fun car! Handled like it was on rails. On the other hand, it had no low-end torque. Also, I wanted something more comfortable for my daily commute and something I could haul the kids around in.
I looked at the G35 sports coupe, but it did not seem any bigger than the prelude and the interior materials looked cheap. I also considered the BMW 330I but it was hard to justify the extra 7 grand.

I had a black on black 2001 Toyota Solara SLEV6 Convertible, with Auto Transmission
Modified with
TRD Supercharger
K&N Intake
TRD Body Kit
17" ICW Chrome 5-spoke wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Tires
It may have been as fast as the 04 TL but would be close.
Was a lot noisier than the TL and not as graceful
Now have the NBP/Ebony auto w/out Nav... Seems the old Solara wheels will fit on the TL... We shall see.

I've still got (but not for long) a 2000 Audi S4 6 speed that is being replaced by my new Anthracite 6MT.
The Audi was a nice car and I'm sure as hell gonna miss it. While beastly fast (APR Stage 2), it was just too small. I was shopping the A6 but after comparing with the TL I realized I liked the TL more--especially given the relative bargain price compared to the A6 and 5 series Bimmer.
Of course I nearly got the new Pontiac GTO.............

Personally, i'd drove both and see which is better for him. When my lease ends, I'll keep an open mind when i return the car to my dealer. If they give me a great deal on a new A4, i'll have a tough decision to make. The A4 is definitely a nice car. make sure he is getting quattro and not Front Trak. Audi shouldn't sell front wheel drive cars IMHO. their bread and butter is quattro.
an A4 3.0 6spd, can get up there in price after it is optioned out (into the 40's) , but still less than BMW or MB. so the TL would still be the value play with all else equal

'00 Audi S4
Since someone asked earlier why to us Audi folks are moving on.... recently I had some scheduled maintenance done and was a bit shocked at how much non-warrantied service ran. Also I plan on moving pretty far from work relatively soon so the 10+ mpg increase with the Tl sounded good. Lastly, the Audi was just too small in the back - especially with a newborn on the way. I love my Audi but realized that I needed to be a bit more practical now. The TL 6 speed seemed like a reasonable compromise.

Traded in my 2002 TL-S which was WDP w/parchment. Twelve previous cars (too many to list), but prior to that had the following Honda/Accura products. I'm definitely a Honda/Accura girl!
'98 White Accord Coupe
'97 Champagne Accord Special Edition
'92 White Accord Sedan
'88 White Accord Sedan
Do you see a pattern here? Champagne wasn't my color so that car was traded in quickly.
