Also, the original TL filter was made by Filtech (part number is 15400-PLM-A01). If you can find one (not the ebay replacement version) it is a MUCH better build quality than the Fram/Honeywell replacment 15400-PLM-A02.

Search. There is a thread where the S2000 (Toyo Roki and Filtech) and the PLM-A01 and PLM A02 are cut open and compared.

S2K filter. High availability, better than the FRAM crap, and not incredibly pricey either.

Yes they were discontinued - not sure when exactly. Hard, if not impossible to find. Feking Fleabay sellers call them "15400-PLM-A01" but with an "R" or "REP" or some crap. It's a knock off of some kind, not the true OE part, made/branded by a no name manufacturer.

Funny thing they still show in the parts lists at the parts depot stores:

Item 10 from Acura Carland, Duluth, GA.

A fram, oem honda, and a K&N.And guess what. all 3 of them had paper filters in them.If you get a chance, you should cut one open and take a look to compare.
I was not implying that. And most honda oem filters have paper other than the JDM ones. If you didnt know there are three OEM Honda filters. One made in Japan, US, and Canada. Both the US and Canada ones are crap quality and have paper in them. As I recall Hamp might have worked with the JDM filter I forgot as it has been quite a while since I read the article on one of the oil sites.

I'm still at 50% since I bought my car. Thinking of biting the bullet and going with Pure Power:

Anyone had experience with this? Or, anyone that has heard of this, have you heard anything negative?

What what it's worth: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html

I've used the S2000 filter for my first change, and the Mobile-1 M110 for my 2nd and will continue using it despite it's $10 price tag.

WOW interesting! It looks like Fram and STP are the only ones that use cardboard end caps.
Anyway I use either Mobil 1 or K&N

Cool

There is only one that's "The Best!!!" That is of course 'AMSOIL!' Go to there site. HTTP://www.AMSOIL.com For a starting point. Then compare the numbers. Including filter life and how small (Microns) will it catch dirt. Here is the cutaway.

I think , You get what you pay for. You do the research. Let me know if I have missed it.
PS: The AMSOIL air filter is tops in that class also!!

Guess they all use their favorite test for advertizing..

Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters contain synthetic fibers instead of the typical cellulose filter media. With a 99.2 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test)

Point is they all say use the standard (MID) factory change schedule under "severe" conditions. Of course they never get around to defining exactly what "severe" means.

So the question becomes are you better off running a $19 filter for 25,000 miles or putting in a fresh $9 one every 8,000 miles

Thanks Spiritman for posting what some of us already know. Amsoil is the best with the scientific facts to prove it. Why would you use anyting else?

WIX or NAPA Gold, I buy them by the case for all my Honda's & Acura's. Just as good as Fram, OEM & some other overrated filters. Cut them apart and look, then you be the Judge.

Its made of cardboard. I forgot where the picture of the cutout of the fram is its crap. Only filters I use are Wix Gold, Mobile 1, or Amsoil. Usually amsoil since my buddy knows a dealer.

please do your car and yourself a favor and don't buy FRAM even if your oil is 1000miles past due. I buy the M1-104 mobile 1 oil filter with 5w-20/30 synth. oil. Have been doing that since i first bought the car and still sticking with the same set up.

General consensus is Fram is crap. $14 f or a Fram filter is ridiculous!! I have never seen one that expensive...

What is the consensus? the OEM filter?
It's made by Fram, and in the "cheap crap" category. It works fine, but you can get a lot better filter for a little more money. Mobile 1, Amsoil, Hamp, Nippon, ect.

What's the best filter/ oil combo????
Best, probably Amsoil/Amsoil, but it is pricey. There is plenty of other great combo's.

I use Royal Purple 5W-30 synthetic and Mobil 1 filter.

Amsoil and Royal Purple filters use a synthetic media. I have no personal experience with the RP filters but they look very promising.

The synthetic medias provide better flow (less chance of going into bypass), better filtration, and more loading capacity (longer intervals). They are also unaffected by moisture where a cellulose media will swell and not filter as well.

I leave my Amsoil filters on for 3 change intervals. It sounds crazy but it eliminates the dry start after each oil change. At 15,000 miles, it's nowhere near it's load capacity. I wouldn't think about doing that with a lesser filter.

Almost forgot, I use the Amsoil EAO 20 filter for the S-2000.

if you're using synthetic, probably should use a better filter than oem. oem = meant for honda motor oil; more viscous than mobil 1 synthetic, royal purple, etc.

Well I was using the Fram Severe Driving Filter since TLs go well beyond 3,000 miles according to the MID, but I guess I'll have to use something else from now on. I just changed my oil last saturday

I've used regular motor oil since I got the car and replaced it every 4-5K miles.. What's the frequency with synthetic? I heard every 15K? Thanks!
