What % to change oil? What Did You Service Your First Time?
Hello,
I bought my car in November of last year. 2006 TL.
I have yet to go for my first oil change as it has 40% remaining oil life left.
I noticed that the oil life goes down by 10% at a time. Yet the manual says that around 15%, it will tell you to go in for service soon.
So i'm in a jam...when you are at 20% are you getting a message? does it go down to 10% before u get a message? it doesnt' increment by 5.
So are most people going in at 20%? or at 10%? 5%?
i think 15% it will say service due soon right? is that the time to schedule appointment?
Also, can people give me recommendations on what other services are needed? air filter change? etc etc???

Just follow to MID, oil change and tire rotation.
If you go to dealer just tell them oil and tires. If you tell them A1 service, that's what they'll charge you for, not oil and tires. My dealer did 1st oil change free, so I paid $20 for tires.

Just go by the MID. It increments by 5 after it gets below 20.
Directly copied from the Acura Owner Link maintaince FAQ web site:
Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?
Your Acura engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.
How often should I change my oil after the first service?
Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended service intervals. Separate maintenance schedules are listed for "normal service" and "severe service." Read the description of severe service carefully. Most vehicles will fall under the normal service category. Note that the service intervals are listed by time in addition to distance. Your oil should be changed at whichever interval, time or distance, occurs first.
There is absolutely no benefit in changing your oil more frequently than recommended in your owner's manual. This will only increase your cost of ownership, and create an unnecessary burden upon the environment by increasing the amount of disposed oil.

Once the MID gets to 20% it counts down in 5% intervals. I had my original oil changed at about 4500 miles to Mobil 1 synthetic. The MID was displaying plenty of oil life but I wanted to go with the better oil. Once you get to either 5% or 0% a small warning icon stays on the MID display as a reminder to get service. Plus once at 5% each time you start the car you have to hit the reset button on the MID to make a large warning disappear. My first service (the A1?) was provided free by my dealer, which included oil and filter change, tire rotation, and lots of inspections.
