Why does the AT TL weigh in at 3575 while the similiar but bigger size and engine wise altima weigh in below 3300. And we paid more :banghead:

It could be a myriad of reasons. A better navi system, sound system, speakers, seats, airbags, brakes, etc. Kind of a tough question to answer.

Ours weighs more and we paid more. Seems fair to me. A lot of it is extra soundproofing materials and more extensive bracing for rigidity of the body.

I think you've been analyzing too many numbers using blue LED illumination....

why do you need it lighter? you're riding the car. not the car riding you. i mean if you're concerened about weight coz you wanna race other cars that are lighter or what not you shouldn't have gotten a TL and got a 350Z or Z4. i'm just curious why the weight matters that's all

Actually the 350Z weighs around 3200/3300 lbs. The ALtima ways less as it has less features, electronics and safety. Also the Altima has the most thin doors and paint I've ever seen.

w1n78, weight is a car's biggest enemy. It hurts fuel econonmy, hurts the sport of the car mostly etc. The lighter the car, the better (for sports cars). That is why carbon fiber is now so widely used. Also why aluminum is used, to save weight.

They already did a good job keeping the weight down with things like an aluminum front subframe, etc. The TL weighs about 250 lbs less than a 530i, which is pretty much the same size.

If you're looking for less weight, you need a car that is noisier and not so much luxury as it is pure sport. I'd say S2000, miata, RX8 etc. The 350Z doesn't even cut it. It's pretty darn heavy compared to those.
