Weighing the Options

Just wanted a little bit of input. I have an 05 WDP Base with 78,000 miles on it. I love the car, but at the local Acura dealer I found a Black TL-S with 125,000 miles. The higher miles are a little bit of a concern but it's a one owner with no accidents and was originally purchased and driven here in Utah. I have AcuraCare on mine up to 100,000 miles, but I would love to have the bigger engine and the Navi. Just wondering if you would make the switch. Thanks!

Unless you're making the move from auto to manual, the extra ~25hp isn't really worth it IMO. Integrated navi would be nice, but if you think about it the average android phone will be a lot more up to date with mapping than integrated navigation.

it's cheaper to keep her, that applies to women and trading in a car

Keep in mind the type s is more than just navi and bigger engine. You have the different front end, lights, body kit, seats, rear end, interior design, brembos, exhaust, wheels and more. I was one of those guys wishing I had the type s and rather than be purchasing all type s mods, I got the type s. Of course make sure it's a smart purchase but you'll be happy you did.

Agreed...but lower mileage trumps the extra bits IMO

All of which could be swapped onto his car if he really liked it that much.

Need more info. Is your car paid off? Are you trading it in? How much for the S?

FWIW - I have an 08 TLS, which I love, but wouldn't have traded up to it if I was going to go out of warranty and adding nearly 50K miles to the odometer.

And to add to this-does the Type S have the 105,000 major tune-up done to it?

My car isn't paid off. I'm at ground zero trading it in. I haven't officially talked to my sales guy yet, but I've been looking at what I owe and trade in on the car. They're asking $15,900 for the TL-S.

Went for a quick test drive this afternoon. It is a very nice car. Overall it's not quite as clean as mine...the side mirrors chatter when tilting and have a little bit of burn along the bottom from the heater being on for too long. The headlights have some serious oxidation. I noticed that black really shows every blemish compared to white.

I'm not sure if the timing belt and everything has been done. I'm assuming yes but definitely a question that should be asked. The carfax shows almost all of the work being done at the Acura dealer. I'm assuming since you get the free oil changes when you buy the car there.

I really like the separate fog lights and the turn signals in the mirrors. Perhaps time to learn how to do a little DIY...

Theres pictures of it.

Motor and interior items are gonna be real expensive to change out. The rest I see allot of people do. The 125k miles are probably the biggest concern but get all service records and ask more questions. Mines at 76k and running very strong.

Are you looking to buy locally? Willing to travel to get a good deal? If so, there are plenty of TL-S to be had just a few states away. The deals are out there and you can always negotiate on price. Since the car isn't paid off yet, it's going to be tricky if you're going the trade-in route since they'll gouge you on that.

It seems to me that you really want it.

I'd try to get the dealer to fix all the blemishes and issues before talking them more about the car. Oxidation and the 'rattle' when tilting the side mirror is unacceptable. Make sure they fix everything before you can 'negotiate'.

Your WDP should go for around 12-14k, so I can see it being a straight trade or some cash on your side. TBH, I would trade my 06 TL for a Type-S in a heartbeat especially, just like you, I don't have NAVI. Navi conversion cost almost $2000 through Martin.

I'd say if your finances allow it, and that they have done all proper maintenance and fixes on the car, get it.

it just comes down to how much you value the aesthetics of the Type S.. its your personal $ amount you can apply to looks and navi.. as someone stated above the Android or Smartphone navi is much better than any navi in the car... it is nice though.. I don’t have it in mine and I am changing my interior to get it.. but not putting in Acura Navi but something that will work like a smartphone.. to me if I have Navi I want it to have the latest and greatest maps which any OEM navi will not have.. ever.. unless it is hooked to online maps

as for style.. Type S is nice.. I want to mod my headlights and grill to change the look.. not to Type S but something as nice..

again at the end though it is up to you to decide if you really like the Type S look do you value it enough to actually upgrade your car or do you find more value in doing the changes yourself

my two cents is keep your 05 TL and do the cosmetic upgrades… engine wise if you are going from auto to auto then just get a j-pipe and PCD.. or high flow PCDs

there is something to keeping a low mileage car J

I would honestly pass on this one, your car is cleaner and lower in milage. If a lower milage, cleaner type s came in, then I would consider it.
