Weak Roof Rails. Is this a Defect?

I'm not sure how common this is but if you park your 3G TL in a Manhattan garage, you run this risk of getting dents in the roof rails. In many Manahattan garages, the attendents park the cars so close that they need to enter through the windows and thereby put weight on the rails when lifting themselves up. In Manhattan, I've seen dozens of 3G TL's with dents above the side windows and mine was dented on both sides while I had it garaged. Over $1k to repair but fortunately the garage paid. Now I park on the street because I don't trust any garage and don't want to deal with it again. What pisses me off is that no other car model appears to have this problem. In the garage I parked in, all three TL's had dents while none of the other cars had any problems.

I know people don't typically enter through the window, but I have wanted to put a roof rack on the car and am affraid it would cause dents or screw up the repair job that was done to the car. Anyone using a Yakima roof rack on their TL?

I guess my question is that anyone who has had this issue ever get Acura to admit it was a problem and fix it?

Thanks

I doubt Acura is going to be admitting to this being a defect any time soon. I seriously doubt Acura intended the windows to be used for regular access/exit points. I also would guess that this is not a problem common only to Acura. I am really curious how these guys get into the windows of SUV's and convertables tho.

If it is a problem, it's only with the sheetmetal. The car has to pass rollover tests so the structural integrity is there but the sheetmetal seems to be thin on these cars.

And thus I don't park in the city's underground garages.
