WDP Conversion to Full Ebony Interior
WDP Conversion to Full Ebony Interior
I have semi-recently purchased an 05 WDP 6MT TL with the Tan/Black interior.
I live in Hawaii...so I could not wait to find a WDP/Ebony 6MT with Navi. It just wouldn't happen in 10 years. Sooooo....I've decided I am going to do a conversion. I'd like to see if anybody on this forum has done an interior mod of this magnitude. I've done some disassmebly and reassembly of interiors in the past...this will be larger by a fair margin.
I think people will be interested in this topic as I have not been able to find a single thread of this topic yet most people enjoy the WDP/Ebony combination.

I could get the door panels for about 350....from there I would most likely have to go to a custom shop to get the leather upholstered and the carpet done. I saw some stuff Kennedy and another guy (sorry can't remember the name) did and I don't think i'm up for the carpet job.
I would just have to find the seat bottom where all the controls are in black. Being in Hawaii makes this especially difficult because large items are almost out of the question to ship.

I've thought about doing this to my TL but it would take forever and you would need a lot more parts than you may think. If you're dedicated to find every single piece and willing to tear apart your interior, props to you, but I don't hate my parchment interior THAT much.
There recently was a member who swapped out his tan carpet for the ebony carpet. I fully support you doing this, I'd love to see it. Someday when I have a bunch of money to blow, I want to replace the leather seat covers, steering wheel, and floor mats in my car. I've always wanted to do this as it'd be like a new car inside. I'll keep dreaming on though.
Oh and make sure if you do it, that everything is installed tight and securely. Rattles will drive you nuts.

I don't HATE the parchment, but I would love to have ebony. I might just do the carpet and re-upholster the seats (which has enough wear to partially justify this decision
) for starters. The real hang-up in my mind is the center console. AcuraOEMparts is great for some things...but takes your first born with others. I found great looking door panels on Ebay for less than 100. They want 4-6X that much in some cases. Just the carbon insert is 70 bucks. I found an entire rear door panel on ebay for 50.2-3K is on the way high end IMO. I think I could swing this for about 1.5 if I did a complete conversion. I may have to frickin paint the center console black for the simple fact that living in Hawaii may make it damn near impossible to find/get a black center console. So far only one brave soul has egged me on to try this
IMO that is a lot of money that could go elsewhere, but it is your car.
This is a very ambitious project...and it may take me a long time to slowly accomplish it. I just wanted to see how many others have converted their interior and to what degree. At this point it looks like not much
Sounds like a fun hobby/project to keep up. Lots of little challenges and things to overcome. Of course you could take a LOT of nasty shortcuts with some spray paint action.
If you want to do things the legit way, maybe even consider some cool 2 tone action. I would recommend metal/black to coordinate with all the metal highlights (where you probably have wood right now).

take it to a upholstery shop and get something custom, if youre going to spend the money..
That was my original idea. Custom two tone. Like the Type-S except black on the edge of the seat and parchment on the inside...except I would rather go for a darker like a baseball glove leather.
I would be shocked if there are any.
Sim and other manufacturers make very high quality interior paint. I've known many a folk who have used this paint to get a nice replacement seat to match their interior. It did match, and it did not rub off.
Now there isn't a day on this planet I don't think where I could undertake doing this, but it is an option.
So, you can try the paint, you can spend a fortune sourcing every single last interior part, or you can do the smart thing and just live with the color you bought.
That is most likely I would guess.....

I did it to my 2005 a few months back. It prob took me a good day to take out 80% of the interior and my friend helped me the next 2 days for the rest. I did the navi conversion too at the same time. It's really expensive and only worth it if you really want the black interior. You really do have to find everything tho, from the gas cap opener/visors/all the panels/seatbelts for it to match. Overall it was pretty easy if you have the time. I'll post some pictures if I remember.
Btw, it took about 8 months of collecting so definitely not worth it unless you find a salvaged one somewhat intact and buy the parts that you couldn't use.

i would just consider this a work in progress and start collecting parts and pieces waiting for the "right buy to come along" unless you are like most people here who just cant wait and buy it now lol. Atleast if i was in your shoes thats what i would plan to do.

As far as your conversion goes, you can save money and have the leather re-dyed at an upholstery shop and any leather wrinkles/rips fixed as well. The only things left would be the pillars and headliners and as well the CF trim and carpet.
Buy a new carpet, it's around 150 for both pieces if I remember correctly. For the headliner and pillars, why not wrap them in Alcantara! And as far as the CF goes, you can buy a dash-kit from online and go with your own trim! For the plastic pieces such as the console trim and glovebox, you might have to buy those as I doubt they can be dyed ebony.
