Watch for excessive wear on rear tires too

My first post on this subject was when I found that my tires were worn down to the “wear bars” when I had the tires rotated at the first oil change (6,600 miles) – see http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83679

Closer inspection showed that only the rear tires were worn – fronts were fine. Rear tires, now on front, were out of balance so I had them balanced at my tire dealer. My concern, supported by this board, was that the alignment was off.

Took the car to the dealer and got a complimentary alignment – and the alignment was definitely off.
Want to include kudos for great service (as always) from Stevens Creek Acura. Had them change the seat memory module during the same visit. Prompt friendly service with no hassle. Got a 03 TSX for a loaner – made me appreciate my TL even more, but it got me to work and back. Car was washed and vacuumed when I picked it up.

Lessoned learned is that tire wear on all four tires needs to be watched on a new car. Alignment and balance issues with rear tires may not be noticeable when driving. If I had noted the tire wear earlier I could have had the alignment corrected before it ruined the tires.

Did they give you a new pair of tires? If the car was delivered misaligned, that's Acura's fault.

Who did you work at Stevens Creek Acura? I found Paul Cimoli (The service manager) to be very helpful.

Rets:
I could provide pictures of tire wear, but I don’t think they would provide any value. Wear is even across the tire with no cupping.

Aegir:
I feel that it is the owner’s responsibility to be aware of something like excessive tire wear and think trying to get compensation (replacement tires) is an unreasonable goal.

Lore:
I have been working with Ron Garcia for a few years with three different Acuras (95 6-sp Legend coupe, 98 RL, and 04 TL).

See... if it's unevenly worn out, that's the picture we really like to see.

you do bring up a great point.

Its a really good habit to inspect your tires monthly or even more often.
