Washing car with a roof wing?
I am interested in purchasing a roof wing for my 2004 TL. What I can't seem to wrap my head around is if the roof wing is secure enough to wash it and not have the adhesive come off.
Common sense suggests the 3m tape makes it secure enough but I need to hear from people who have used either the roof wing or rear trunk spoiler and had no issues with the adhesive weakening over time.
Tks

Kinda make sense that hand washing won't weaken the Adhesion. Now Going through a Touch less Car wash that's a different story. IDk how that tape will hold up to the water pressure or even the Brush hands. Good Question I will love to know this myself cause I also am interested in the Rood Spoiler

i have the rear roof wing on my car and it's been holding up for about 4 months now no problems. for the first 2 months i hand washed the car in my drive way, but recently i started to take my car to the do-it-yourself car wash. the ones where you put quarters in and choose rinse, soap, foam, etc and its powered by a pressure gun.
i purposely aimed at my rear roof spoiler while the pressure gun was set to rinse and i pulled the trigger to make sure the pressure is full blast and i aimed at the very bottom and corner edges of my rear roof spoiler, trying to get the pressurized water to go under the spoiler and hit the adhesive but it never budges.
holds up very well. and when i installed the rear roof spoiler i only used 1/2 of the adhesive primer glue that they included. and yes mines came with 3m tape also, but i used the glue bottle that was included for insurance.

I have had mine since the fall (?), and I wash my car every week (mix of hand wash and auto). So far it hasn't moved in the slightest. That grey 3m tape, especially if primed correctly with rubbing alcohol or equivalent, is some REALLY strong stuff.

Mine's been fine since it was placed in 12/10- I used a 3rd piece of tape in between the other 2 from the seller for extra security. It doesn't move or feel loose on the back window at all. The 3M tape is the best to use.

I've had my roof spoiler for a few years. The Type S has been in hand spray washes and hand washes and has not come off. Don't worry about it!

I have the ebay spoiler and mine has come off once in the winter time. I went to touchless car washes twice a week because I bought a season pass. The corners started pealing and I eventually ripped all the tape off and reapplied the same 3M tape but thicker. I've been hand washing it since and it's fine now.

I guess my best bet is to make sure the roof wing is applied properly and securely. Secondly, if I am not washing it by hand, I should only take my car to a "by hand" car wash.
Am placing my order tonight.
Tks all.

I had a roof wing on my 330i and i came off after a few car washes. I think this was due to the spoiler not being manufactured 100% to the shape of the rear window. Hence, as soon as the tape peeled, it went back to its original, less curved, shape. I think as long as you go with a proper roof spoiler or get lucky with an ebay one, you should be good. Thats partly the reason why I'm just going to get an ATLP roof spoiler.

No, the paint is pretty solid, but the wing itself on the other hand isn't. The ebay one has the same problem with the shape not being the same as the back window. It comes in a bendable plastic material for you to conform into the shape, and it only stays that way after being exposed to the elements. When I took mine off to re-tape it, it was the same curve as the window and stayed that way.

Guys, I actually used 2 layers of 3M double sided tape. The roof spoiler applies to the rear glass....no problems to date.
