Warranty work questions
Hey everyone. Just a quick question from a newbie about warranty work. In the recalls that are posted in the TSB's, does the cost come out of pocket or are these covered by the dealer? Secondly, are the dealers obligated to complete the work? Thanks in advance.

tsb's differ than a recall...but tsb's will be covered under your normal warranty...if you are experiencing a problem that falls under a tsb, and you know the tsb number, then you can help your dealer out by letting him know there is a tsb for your issue...otherwise, tsb's are there to help your dealer diagnose your problem...a recall on the other hand is an issue that the manufacture will find you and notify you about the problem that they want fixed asap....

TSB's are created because of similar problems reported by many people. If you don't have the particular problem the TSB addresses, I don't think the dealer is obligated to perform the steps outlined as a fix.

No, I'm a Canadian in Alberta. So, if I look at my service records and they don't indicate that a problem has been addressed and I am still experiencing that issue, the dealer will be able to fix it?

jk. Welcome to the boards.
Obviously a problem can't be addressed unless you report it. What I mean by that is a dealership is not going to perform every TSB issued for your car just in order to "head off" a future problem. Don't think you can walk into a dealership with a handful of TSB's and expect them to perform all the remedial actions specified. They won't.
The TSB is designed to save the technicians time and effort - reduce troubleshooting, if you will, if a specific problem is reported. A lot of times the steps outlined in the TSB will remediate or resolve the problem.
I asked if you were local because my service manager was telling me about a guy who did what I just described. He even went one better. When he was told his brakes were worn out and needed to be replaced, he showed up the next day with a TSB for squeaking brakes and demanded that they replace them for free. Threatened holy hell against them when they refused.
If you happen to be a member here and recognize yourself in the above description, you're a tool.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Not trying to screw with anyone, I just wanted to know what I had business asking for and what was unreasonable. The guy you're talking about sounds pretty out there.
