warranty for the leather seat?

I'm driving a 07 TL-S with about 9K miles on it, give or take. The thing that annoys me the most is how the front passenger seat is creasing already (mainly on the sides). I was wondering if I can get a free replacement based on the 50K or 4 year warranty?

I've had mine replaced under warranty ( 05 TL). I have an appt tomorrow for service and have requested another replacement for the driver's seat bottom. Personally, I don't think the shop the dealer outsources it too, "wraps" the leather correctly and it ends up looking like shit i.e. creases. The local dealer here in Tampa provide excellent service (ever since I didn't give them a "10" on one of their surveys) and I don't anticipate any problems getting a new bottom cover

I plan on doing my seats right before the warranty expires.......Do you guys think they will do a better quality leather when they redo it? The 04-06s have really bad quality.

Leather seat question

My '06 TL has the gray leather and on the driver's seat the few times my husband has driven it has eventually led to a small blue stain across the bottom of the back where his jeans have rubbed. Do you know if they will replace the seats because of this? Thanks!

Creases are normal with leather...look at your sneakers after you wear them for a few weeks. If you want something that always looks perfect....you'll need to get seats with vinyl not leather. I don't think Acura is responsible for gray leather that stains from the dye in blue jeans guys!!! A friend of mine had a Mercedes that got stained with blue ink that came from his jeans....even Mercedes can't prevent stains. Leather gets wrinkles...it's normal.

That was the explanation I got from Acura after trying to get the passenger seat in my 06 replaced at just 500 miles. The seat appeared to have creases and cracks that are still there and since no one sits there that often, don't get worse.

What makes me mad is that Acura told me they would fix or replace ANY fit-and-finish item that I wasn't happy with inside the first 12 months, 12000 miles -- even if I just didn't like the way it looked.

Then when I tried, I was stonewalled.

I guess I could always find a way for the stitching to "unravel"?

Creases and wrinkles are quite normal with any leather. The type of leather used in most automobiles (non aniline) has the color "painted" on the surface of the leather. It normally makes the leather more stain and moisture resistant than a true aniline leather. If that color finish cracks thru to the point you can see the brown leather thru the crack...that's NOT normal and the warranty should cover it. Aniline leather is the highest quality but it's not stain resistant and almost impossible to clean due to it's soft texture and lack of a surface coating.

Here is a good website explaining the various types of leather:

Yeah leather wears and can age we know that but the TLs leather ages WAY too quickly. Most people with BMWs and MBs don't have issues like our cars until 100K. The leather on my old Bimmer was starting to look bad....but it had 130K on it and it was 12 yrs. old! The leather they use is more rough and durable.

My car has close to 30K and the seats look pretty bad already. At 30K the leather looks MINT on a euro car.

Why did they say no? Because your car ran a lot of miles? My car barely has 30k now, do you think I should complain now? It's not reaaaally bad but it's gettin there!

The car was valeted for a year just 2 months after I got it. It got a lot of ass abuse from all the movin around. It looked like crap ever since. The only reason it looks decent is because I mantain as much as possible.

I got denied for warranty... claiming that it's normal wear and tear... I will never purchase another Acura Vehicle Again... maybe it's just the dealer I went to...

Anyway... the leather seats in our cars aren't REAL LEATHER... just bits and pieces are actually leather... the rest is just Vinyl...

I will revamp my interior on my own...

Good Luck to everyone...

It is your ass that causes the wear and tear!!!

But I had a crease in my rear passenger side, that I took in with 500 miles on it back in 06 and they said NO, gave me same wear and tear BS even though nobody sat in the rear in those 500 miles!!!

Basically the perforated area is fake and the side bolster pieces are real right? And the back of the seats is vinyl of course, everybody knows that.

It's those side pieces on the seat bottom and seatback which are the worse for me. The perforated area is just fine.

henrychan718, just curious if you had luck with the swapping of your seats. I have a 06 w/ 8K miles and my driver side seat is cracking too. I figure if I can get some new seats, why not?

My 06 w/ 9000 miles driver side leather was wearing and cracking even with intensive care so I brought it to our Sponsor's attention at Montclair Acura recently...

Thank you DCH Montclair Acura. Nice and crisp driver side leather again! Great service from great set of people.

I bought my '04 certified pre-owned w/ 49500 miles...the leather was crappy (bad creasing and blackened cracks) on both sides, particularly driver side and the salesman said he couldn't do anything about it...then after I bought it I read this post and asked my service manager when I took it in for service...past 50,000 my dealer replaced both leather sides on driver and passenger sides, and also the leather on the center console. I was very pleasantly surprised as I thought there was only a chance they would replace the driver side since it was pretty bad. They said they took it from their goodwill fund since the car is out of factory warranty (still under 1 year certified pre-owned warranty but they said that warranty doesn't cover wear/tear). They also replaced the driver side door seal because there was a tear in it, again from goodwill fund.

i beg to differ.....our 05 Porsche Cayenne has a "Leather" wrapped dash..that's not including the "Leather" suede headliner.

I had two 08 TL-S and they replaced the passenger seat twice due to the creasing and my new Type-S with 700 miles on it they are already replacing the passenger seat as the leather creased awful. The service manager said Acura knows about the issues. My guess is this late in production they'll just replace those of us that complain. What finally fixed my last Type-S decently was the dealer used an auto trim ship to do the work, I picked up the replacement leatehr and took car to trim place and explained the issue. They added some additional padding under the cover to help take up the slack and it worked well. Problme you need to watch out for is you need to find a place that deals in auto seats, low end place or dealer may put any padding in there that will flatten ina few months. The trim place used some sort of furniture grade padding that should last a while.

Not sure what the problem is with Type-S seats, they all seem loosely fitted I have not seen the slack leather or creasing in regular TL yet and I know a few people with 07 and 08's.

I think it is Acura, the repalcement leather is way too loose. I know the stuff shinks a tad, but I think who ever they OEM the leather too is making them too loose. Even the trim place that replaced mine twice on my old TL-S said the seats seems too loose, they added padding under mine the second time. My new TL-S with <1K miles is alreay getting passenger seat repalced, damn leatehr is folding over on itself!! Acura leather quality sucks!

My understanding is al the seat faces are real, only sides and back are fake. Basically anything that can touch you body is real leather. So perferated area, and thigh and back bolsters shodul be real the side panels (ie where power controls are) and back side are fake.
