Warped Rotors @ 18K - Is this covered under warranty?
04 TL with 18K...dealer says rotors are warped. Cost to turn rotors: $180. This includes labor only.
Anyone else have this issue? I searched the forum, only found (1) thread on "warped rotors".
On some of my prior Acuras, the rotors were replaced under warranty.
If no warranty coverage, I'm either going to pull the rotors myself and have them turned, total cost = ~$60, or get some Brembos.
Thanks.

Some earlier model Accords has rotor warping issues when the tech did not tighten the lugs in the proper order and to the proper torque. I don't that has been a problem with the 3rd gen TL's and that's probably why you haven't found any threads on it. You might want to find out if they say that ALL your rotors are warped (or just one of two of them). If you have ONLY had this dealership service it and it's 100% stock then I would "bust their balls" on the cause and see if they would do a "goodwill" turn (i.e. free) but then you still have a roter that is thinner and more prone to future warpage. You may want to press them for a full new set under warranty (why not go for the "whole ball of wax" if your gonna try)?

honda/acura brake rotors are covered up to 15k. talk to the service mananger and see if they can goodwill the job. we goodwill turn rotors at my dealer all day long. also depends on the life left on the pads. after 1/2 worn might not be a go. if you have done all your maintance at the dealer that works in your favar for a goodwill.

I bitched about a vibration in the steering wheel under high-speed braking and they replaced front Brembo pads and rotors under warranty, no questions asked.
My car is an '05 and had 18K at the time.

They don't warp from sitting to long. They warp from getting really hot and then instantly cold right away. For example like braking hard and then going into a lot of water. Instantly they warp.
Next one is rare and I mean rare, Not tor. the lug nuts on to factory spec.
Frozen caliper slide plus uneven wear of brake pads.
Turning rotors now is not recommended. they will be thin and warp 3x as fast. Plus you bend over more when they say "We need to turn your rotors" It takes about 20 min per rotor. Dealer can charge about 2 hours for it. I bet they will tell you they turned your rotor but in the end just slapped on new ones got the car out in 20 min and charged you 2 hours.
Its the game of being in this business. I am an automotive tech. I am telling you right now just because you own an acura doesnt mean its different from a 1970 disc brake system car. Common sense thats all it is.

I'm thinking I'll get some Brembos off ebay...
Thanks for the input!

FWIW, most "warped" rotors are just uneven pad material built up on the rotor.
Before you go spend alot of money on anything I would suggest you try re-bedding the pads and rotors. Do 6-10 HARD stops (not quite into ABS) from about 60mph to 10-20mph. Do not stop completely (this is important.) Then drive around 10-20 min where you can drive without coming to a complete stop. The idea is get the pads hot enough to melt a new layer of pad material onto the rotor. Then you need to let it cool without letting the pad rest in one spot on the rotor. If you cant find a place to drive without stopping, stopping the the parking brake (not the pedal) and letting it sit for a couple hours to cool can work too.

Thanks...can't hurt to try re-bedding, may be a cheap fix.
Also, I think my autosig is confusing people. the 6MT is my TSX. The TL is an auto.

I hear ya. However, I did buy some Brembo (blanks) with aftermarket slots & dimples for my other car, only 1K miles so far...but no issues.
I stayed away from the full cross-drilled.
Thanks for the heads up.

I would stay away from brakes on ebay. Get something that is quality like ROTORA, Power Slot, Brembo, etc and off an Authorized Dealer.

Most dealers will complete good faith repairs on brakes in the first year or 12k, but on an '04 not likely.
I have a bad brake squeal and some uneven rotor wear. I found new OEM rotors for 90 each, now I just need to locate some A-Spec pad. I will probably end of doing it myself. When Honda replaced the brakes on my Accord, the shoddy job only lasted about 10k miles.
