Wanting a 3rd Gen TL

I am looking at getting a 3rd gen TL and wanted a bit on insight on them. I will be using this car as a business car so it will be driven a good bit. I have found a few of them in the 50-70K mile rage and just wanted to know some of the problems that y'all have come in contact with and the price of the fixes. I am trying to decide if a higher mileage certified car is worth it or should I just go with a lower mileage one.

the 100k mile mark is when u can expect to drop a couple grand into timing belt, water pump, valve adjustments, spark plugs and probably a broken motor mount or 2.....

It's not a couple of grand. More like $500 - $1400 range.

Search common 3G TL problems here on the forum or if you go to Google type in common 3G TL problems Acurazine and you should find what you need, this has been covered literally thousands of times.

This car was purchased with about 30,000 miles on it. It was driven, mostly, for business (tech service calls).

That is what you can expect for a well cared for car. When he sold it (at 216,000 miles), you'd think - by the way it looked and drove - that it had, say, 50,000 - 75,000 miles on it.

seems a lot more common in the east coast.

04 here on the west coast and my dash is fine.

mostly a hot sunny state issue...so it seems (FL, TX, LA, AZ, AL, GA). i have an 05...no problems here (knock on wood). there have been a few sprinkled in the northern states, but those cars may have been living in the southern hot states for part of their life.

when the 04/05s came out no one had issues with it from the get go ... all im saying is now that we know 04/05 seem to have this issue more than other years, and he is in the market, might as well avoid a problem we know about ...

the dashes are only known to crack in hot states. I'd be more worried about the glass trannies than a cracked dash which a dashboard cover would fix.

^ fair enough ... but i would also say 04/05 are more prone to tranny failure then the later 3g models
