Waiting Sucks
Waiting Sucks
I placed a deposit for a '05 NBP/Ebony NAVI last Friday. Dealer says that I should expect the car sometime in February (kinda vague) unless they can dealer exhange for one. They told me that this color combo with NAVI is very tough to come by because of its popularity. I was just wondering how long others have had to wait? I am an extremely impatient person so this is killing me. I've bought all of my previous cars by walking in to the dealer, making a reasonable offer and driving off with the new car shortly thereafter. Can't wait to join the "club".

Only the dealer can tell you for sure. Might want to contact some other dealers on your own. I had an AM/Quartz on order w/ 6 week delivery. Week 2 I went in to check and they had ABP/Quartz that had just come in...I love it!
Waiting game
My wife and I bought a 05 white TL w/navi in Oct of 04 and had to wait about a month for it to be built (it was hard finding white with the quartz interior). More than likely the dealer is telling the truth. When we ordered ours, we checked with two other dealerships out of our state and was told the same story.
Dino, Welcome to the forum, your combo could be rare due to the production schedule and your regional distribution. We really don't know. It's hard to say if NBP/Ebony is really that uncommon. A month long's waiting ain't lengthy.
If you don't find the combo you like...
how much does it cost to paint the whole car in a different color ?
I have anthracite, but people don't seem to see me from behind, and I got rear-ended 3 times in 1 year! bummer...
So I was thinking abount painting it white, because I have an ebony interior... it would be unique. since I have a 6MT + NAV + XM (Canadians didn't used to get that combo)
or maybe 2 tone (Anthracite + white), so I just have to paint 1/2 of the car...

If they end up having a really hard time getting a NBP/Ebony I would consider AM/Ebony. Personally, I don't care since I've had black cars and ooooohhhh what a pain it is to keep them looking good. My wife seems to be pushing the NBP but she could be convinced to go with Anthracite. If it were up to me, I would tell the dealer to look for both and get me whichever comes in first (Since I am impatient).
My favorite of all the colors is ABP, but unfortunately it isn't offered with an Ebony interior. I've had black, brown and gray leather interiors (similar to quartz) in various cars that I've owned. The only con to black leather is that it can burn your a$$ in the summer (making window tint a must). I really like the fact that it can still look good after a while. The other colors can show stains. Creases in the leather also cast small shadows which can make it look dirty. The worst offender is the 97 SHO that we own. The steering wheel is that same gray leather color. Dirt and perspiration from your hands really make that leather a different color.

Only a month wait? If your wait is only a month, be happy. Not sure how the 05 models are being produced, but when I bought my 04 I waited about 3 months. Put my deposit down in March and received the car in June. Don't worry though, its worth the wait, especially when you get the color combo you wanted.

there has been some talk that you can get the tl in these not available combos.... the blue was the first color i looked at but it couldnt be had with the black interior so i bought the anthracite....
no people are saying that if you go to the dealer and put in for a special order that they could build it for you... it would cost 500$ in a non-refundable deposit...
dont know if its true.... i love my car either way, besides you would have to wait, and we both know that wont happened

ONAGER,
You know me man. I am one impatient SOB. Let me give an example. One of my hobbies is collecting and restoring pinball machines for my personal collection. I recently needed a part that was about $2.00 to finish a restoration. Ground shipping from the vendor that sold the part was 3 days. So as you could guess, I had them ship overnight. The shipping ended up costing me more than 10 times what the part cost. This is just one example of my madness.
Another reason for not waiting is because I am concerned about what a lengthy delay could do to the value of my trade. I had negotiated with them for a while on the value of my trade. (If I weren't so lazy I'd try to sell it myself) They finally met the minimum I would accept. Since I couldn't buy a car that they didn't have, I couldn't trade my car in. After the deposit was paid and the appropriate paperwork completed, he said that since I will be coming back that they would have to re-appraise my trade. I am thinking that if too much time goes by that they might try to nickel and dime me some more on my trade, which currently isn't being driven at all. I tried to get them to take it from me and use it as the down payment on the new car but they said that they couldn't do it.

last week (Jan 21). Dealer mixup on order, delays at factory, more weather delays etc..... ABP/Quartz/6MT/Navi Doesn't seem to be a common combination.
Then on first day I got it (cold here in NE) heater didn't work. Problem with some internal cable!......
Dealer was great in accomodating me with loaner etc after I sold my car.

Congratulations Carl! I'm sorry to see someone else who's been waiting since Sept. At least you now have your car.
I had been dealing with Walter Davis at Duval Acura since Sept. and found out this Monday that he quit.
Now I'm dealing with a new guy who won't honor the fantastic price Walter quoted me via email. On top of that, he's asking for a $2k non-refundable deposit because Walter never ran my card for the deposit last Sept. At this point, they are saying my ABP/Camel/6MT/Navi won't be in until the end of Feb. By then I will have waited 5 months!
So forgive me, Dinot, if I don't have any sympathy for your wait.

I had $200 refundable deposit. Your's seems pretty high. I would
talk with the GM of the dealership there and give him an earful.
At least my dealer kept on it, checked all over to see if other dealers would have one, and accomodated me for the delays. I've been happy with this dealer (Acura of Auburn) and the service they've had over the years.

obviously doesn't want my business as they seem to be doing whatever they can to drive me away. On top of the rediculous deposit, the credit card authorization form is obviously something the sales guy pulled out of his ass. There is no way the wording on it passed a legal department or even a proofreader.I'm getting such an ick feeling from them that I'm now willing to go elsewhere, spend a couple hundred more and wait an extra month just so I don't have to buy the car from Duval. I don't want to get in my car each day only to remember what slimy people I bought the car from. I have conveyed my sentiment to Acura Customer Service, although they really don't seem to be able to do much.
Tomorrow I expect to make a deal with Fountain Acura. An advantage with them is that they are only 1/2 hour away vs. 2-1/2 hours each way to Duval. So if something is wrong with the car (and I suspect it would be from Duval) I won't have to drive so far to get any initial problems rectified. The disadvantage is that I'll have to wait another two months. But at least I will be able to enjoy the car once it gets here.

Bottom line: don't buy from Duval Acura. They are sleazeballs. Now I know why Walter Davis left there. And now I will, too.
I ordered my car on Dec 31st RPP/EBony with Navi...and I am still waiting it was suppose to be built this week, but according to the dealer its still not built. So god knows when its going to come in.....waiting waiting......
Well after over a week of, "your car will be here tomorrow".....my car finally arrived today. The next part is so unbelievable that I had to share.....
I was driving my trade-in to the Acura dealer. I had not even driven my trade while waiting for the new car to come in because I didn't want anything goofy to happen to it. So, on my way down I start to hear a grinding noise from the engine and then a pop. I thought that I had hit a rock or something. Well, a minute or two later I get an alternator warning and then 1 minute later I get a "STOP- Check Coolant Level" message on the information display. I pulled over immediately and cut the engine. As soon as I tried to pull over and felt that the steering was a little tight I knew immediately that the serpentine belt had broken.
The stupid thing that I did was to call my salesman at Acura and tell him that I couldn't make it because the serpentine belt on my trade broke and that I was stuck on the highway. He starts hee'ing and haw'ing about how the car might be damaged and they would have to "re-evaluate" the trade-in. I have a feeling that he thought that it was the timing belt, because later he was asking if the valves were mashed. I should have just made up another excuse. See kids, honesty isn't always the best policy.
