VTECH doesn't start engaging until 5k miles are on the motor?!
I started a thread about breaking in a new TL engine properly, and it was mentioned in the thread that VTECH doesnt engage until the engine has 5k miles on its clock. This was said to be for protective reasons (so engine doesnt overstress itself during break-in period).
Is this true??
I dont think I'm crazy, but I'm hearing/feeling what seems like VTECH around 4700-4800RPM, and I only have 1000 miles on my TL.
Here is the thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184041
It is the 6th or 7th post down.
Thanks

Dude don't trip... Its kicking in... I'm sure he's talking about RPM's... cuz everyone and their mama's can feel the v-tech... I'm sure after time it will kick in faster and stronger as we build miles... I only got 3,000 miles on mine and you can't tell me there is no v-tech... He should of made sure he meant 5k as RPM not miles... So you are good bro... Have fun with it, cuz I'm sure as hell with mine... PEACE!

No. if you actually *read the posts* csmeance means 5,000 miles.
99.9% of the time csmeance is right on the money with the technology/mechanical aspects of the TL, but this time I think he missed the boat; either just wrong or mis-understood what his mechanic freind told him or it applies somehow to the MDX not the TL.

oh the deeeeeeeear JEEEEBUSSSSSS!!! i CAN'T STAND when people (let alone Honda drivers) can't spell out V-TEC correctly...
and yes, it's working. slap an intake on it and roll your windows down if you REALLY wanna hear it. but wait until you have about 2,000 miles built up first.

Per acura.com:
VTEC® is a little like having an on-demand racing camshaft in your engine to give you high rpm power without compromising low rpm torque. When engine speed reaches a designated rpm, the intake valves open deeper and longer to enhance airflow and allow the TL to continue to build horsepower at levels where other engines may run out of steam. When used in tandem with the 2-Stage manifold system, the driver enjoys plenty of low-end power around town and reserve power on the open road.
