VTEC Indicator in action
In another one of my posts I had a few requests for a video of my VTEC Indicator in action so here it is. Note: I recently changed the bulb from a dull green that was hard to see in the day to an ultra-violet (package said blue).

You should wire it to display a message in your information bar that says "vTEC just kicked in yo!"
I'm sorry. That was a terrible joke. Neat idea though, I'd go with a red bulb if I were to do it.

I would have liked it in the cluster but decided to put it by the clock because it would have been easier to "undo" if necessary. I also like the way it looks there and it's easy to pop the clock out for access.
I am happy with the way it turned out and it is close enough that I don't have to adjust where I'm looking.
Red would be cool but I wanted a color that wasn't already in the car.
Here are 2 DIYs that I referenced when I did it. You can basically wire it wherever you want to any 12v light. Also, wiring it to the ECU makes the whole install very easy. I did one on an older Civic Si and wired it to the selonoid which is still easy but requires a wire through the firewall.

This would be neat to have for a day or two but then it's pointless. I would like to know at what throttle % vtec kicks in. I know everyone says full throttle but I'm sure it happens a little below full throttle. Even though I warm my car up easy I would like to know if temperature plays a role. I doubt it does and I know oil viscosity has absolutely no role.

It kind of seems like a mod that Acura would put on a high-end car.

My low end 80s car had a "turbo" and "power" lights on the dash that came on when it hit boost and when it hit full boost along with a "power injection" light for the factory methanol injection that didn't make production. I always thought the power and injection lights were cheesy just like a vtec light would be cheesy and annoying and probably confusing to Acura's target demographic.
