VSA Noise.
I went to visit my cousin in Phil., PA. this weekend and on the way there I was hit with non-stop snow (but the car handled like a champion). When I approached my cousins house I was trying to go up his driveway (which is on an uphill grade) and the VSA turned on (b/c of wheel slip). Each time it turned on it made a noise. I'm pretty sure it's normal but what exactly is it doing that causes that noise?? I doubt highly it's from VSA braking the wheel.

It's a horrible sound. kinda sounds like the engine griding itself to slow the car down. Does the VSA apply the brakes? I thought it was cutting the engine off, not totally off though, to decrease the torque so that it stops the wheels from spinning.

Yep... that's definately the grinding noise i was hearing then. At first I thought something was wrong but I turned VSA off and quickly noticed that the VSA was causing it. I know VSA cuts off engine power - not sure about the braking. I'm just assuming.
Doesn't the VSA apply braking pressure to individual wheels in order to keep the car on it's intended path though? I know my mom's Jag S-R brakes the wheels... and BOY DID I FEEL IT! (The Jag is very intrusive with it's DSC system, however The TLs VSA is much more subtle but maybe it's b/c they don't do the same thing??)
