For when you want to take the car to its limits and not let it be an electronic nanny.

VSA tries to correct oversteer and skidding. So if you are trying to cause either one on purpose, shut it off.

If you're ever in the snow and want to get out of a driveway or up a steep hill you should strongly consider turning VSA off as it mistakenly misinterprets the deliberate wheel spin as an out of control situation and shuts the power down. It can be downright dangerous in those conditions.

Also turn VSA off when you have a flat tire and you put the spare on.

1. It isn't an option. An "option" is when you have a choice, this is standard equipment.

2. It isn't wasted. Used wisely, it is a valuable safety tool.

3. It is also a valuable tool for those who drive unwisely, get caught in situations caused by others who drive unwisely, or just get caught in situations.

Leave it on unless you know what turning it off will do. And make sure you go to a parking lot and see how the car feels with it off before you drive on the road or on some twisties with it off.

BJ
True for going up steep snowy hills, false for other snow driving. In most snow driving, wheel spin is undesirable (lost traction) but in steep hills loss of traction is essentially inevitable, in those instances turning it off will keep the car from losing momentum by trying to limit wheel spin. In the six speed the LSD (without VSA) is very useful in those conditions although it does stress the tranny components. In very spirited driving, where considerable sideways slip may be desirable turning it off is also appropriate. The factory calibration of the system does allow some under/oversteer (more under than over) so in outside of a racing situation (like an autocross) the system can be left on and still get great performance.

Not sure if this applies to this thread, but brother took my parents Bonneville for a spin the other night, and it just slap shut off on him at 110mph. I've had the TL up to 120mph and no signs of quitting. Would the VSA shut the car down at excessive speeds?

I always turn VSA off when I'm going to race someone. If I don't turn it off, I usually feel this jumping sensation when launching and you get better traction and less spin out. Also I got mine up past 150mph (took while to get there).. it never cut off. But this is a 6MT.

That probably wasn't so much the VSA as it was a speed govenor. The car will cut fuel to the engine to prevent you from reaching "excessive" speeds.

Well TL was tested according to magazines of a top speed of 157mph. So does this mean that the cut off is at that? I couldn't get it to 157.. I got it jsut barely over 150mph.. but I needed more road.. It simply got to a point where I coudln't get the RPM higher than 5-6,000 in 6th gear.. so I never got any cut off.. probably cause I wasn't on a flat enough road.. tires? weather condition?

How did the car feel at those speeds. Did it control nicely. How was the pick up after 100 MPH?

It rides smooth no matter what speed I'm at.. and very easily controlled.. TL rocks!
