Visiting from the 2nd Gen thread

alright so I am considering upgrading to a third gen TL and well i want to avoid having the tranny issues the 2nd gens are plagued with. I know the 04 and 05 are arent as bad but the the 06, 07, and 08 have any issues? or are they pretty solid?
And dont the 07 and 08 have an aux cord?
I prefer to try and go for a 07 or 08 with Navi but my budget is about $9500 I know I could find one but would that price be alright for a decent 07 or 08?

jonny boy.. jonny jonny boy.

welcome to 3g land, all your questions have been answered before within these realms and as a potential future owner, it would be very useful if you went through and did your due diligence. 07/08 have the upgraded transmission from the RL so are much more solid plus include an aux cord.

Without telling us where you are and just giving a budget, how are we supposed to know if you'll be able to find a decent one? ANy mileage requirement? If you have a max budget, then you'll have to settle for maybe something higher mileage.

Might I suggest cars.com, carmax.com, and other online sites to search for a car that might fit your budget.

you can find a high mileage 07 and 08 around your budget.

it's "newer" design in term of tranny and exterior.

I'm over in Athens, Georgia and my max budget is $9500. I'm not financing, much prefer cash. I'm not worried about mileage. I prefer a white premium model with navi. I think I can find one within my budget my biggest concern was the tranny, I know the RL is way more reliable reguarding trans and to hear that that's where the 07,08 one comes from I think I will prob stay focused on finding one of those years.

get a 2007+ model and you'll be happy. If you can find a high mileage 4G, jump on that.

Yup. My 3rd Gen TL tranny failed too and it was barely outside of the warranty mileage. My 02 CL tranny failed and it was within the warranty mileage. Don't know about any newer models.

I had mine for 4 years now, the only thing need to be replace is LCA (Lower Control Arm bushing) which normal and a new rack and pinion (this is somewhat my fault since I waited a little longer than 60k miles for a flush). I bought at 59k miles and now has 96k miles of spirited driving and yet trans did not show any sign of abnormal (I also take great care of maint too).
