VIN Number
VIN Number
My understanding is that the last 5 digits of the VIN represents a sequential production number. This means the bigger the number, the latter the production date. Is that correct?
I am going to buy a new 06 TL, and it has a VIN with the last 5 digits being 26xxx. Does this mean it is an ealier production? I notice some of the new owners have much higher numbers, like 54xxx. Should I buy an earlier production car? How many TLs have Acura sold/produced in 06?
Does anyone have better info on this issue? Thanks.

It appears from the VIN that my car has a fair early production date. I am going to call the dealer tomorrow, unless someone tells me otherwise.
You're right. 26,000 is a low number and means it was made early in the year. My VIN for my 2004TL is 24,000 and the car was made in December 03, so yours should have been made around the same month in 2005.
It sounds like it has been on the lot for a long time. What's the mileage?
If the mileage is low, there is not necessarily a problem buying an earlier production date model, especially if it is the color and has the navi or non/navi option you want and you also get a good price on it.

Ron, I think you are right, the car was probably made either early this year (Jan/Feb) or late last year (Dec). When I was at the dealer today, he told me that he does not have the color I want in stock, and I think he might have went on dealer.com to look for it.
The price is not bad for my neighborhood, NYC/Long Island, but in NJ or PA, it can be had for an additional $600-$700 lower.
If I have a choice, I would prefer a late production car, something that has a VIN around 60,xxx. What do you think?
