vibration equals charge

i brought my car in for vibration yesterday thinking that it was related to flat spotting, known tire issue , but the guy told me that the tires might need to be balanced, i told him like a month ago i payed someone to rotate, balance and oil change so if thats the case i will go back to previous guy to get him to rebalance, since i payed for it already, as i left the office prior to any acura service i told the rep to call me if any service is going to aquire a charge, he said of course. I go to pick up my car and of course there is a chrage of 42 dollars. he wasnt there but they stated that the charge was for a tire balance, and the only way for them to know if the tires needed to be balanced would of been to balance them out then test drive the car again. you think i am responsible for paying the 39.95 plus tax for the balancing? and the guy never asked me or called me prior to the service to get my confirmation for charge...

and lets say the balancing didnt fix the vibration, (in this case it def made my car more sterdy) they basically troubleshoot the problem with trial and error, who would of payed for the balancing then if it didnt fix problem.....

You shouldn't have to pay. Dealers have to notify you if there is gonna be a charge. Also, you specifically told them not to.
Just curious, which dealer did you go to?

I've had my tires balance 3 tires from the dealer with no charge. They should not charge. Call the service manager and get the money back.

Most dealers have < $50 dollar policy they don't have to call, esp since they told you up front that it would probably require a balancing. Clearly, anyone who brings a car in for service would have some expectations of a service fee, unless it's warrantee work, which is pretty much obvious. Tires and brakes are an instant non-warrantee item ---most of the time. I would pay with no questions asked. If the balancing it didn't fix it I wouldn't take it home... Its there to be fixed right?

well i spoke with guy and he said the balancing had to be done to determine if that was the problem, if it didnt resolve the trble i wouldnt of gotten charged for it...and since the car has 10 thousand miles it was in need of balancing, not like the car at 10 miles on it and should be under like a manufactory warranty for original balance....he apoligized he didnt make it clear to me but that is the only way to trbleshoot the issue was to perform the task, sort of like trial and error, but they wont charge u for the errors (like if the balancing didnt fix issue)

Acura knows they have an issue with tires. My dealer tried several times to balance the wheels to stop the vibrations. They balanced my tires until 7000 miles when they said we will get you new tires. In no way should you have paid for that. You took your car in for vibration issues, that is warranty work.
