Variable Cylinder as Aftermarket Modification?

Has any manufacturer come up with variable cylinder technology as an aftermarket modification?

If not, could this be done or is there a lot more involved than just the programming of the engine?

I have seen the new honda accord v6 engine pulled apart. I believe the answer is no. Honda uses a mechanical device in the engine which actually does not allow the cylinders that have the cylinder deactivation to have vtec .

Too bad. That would be a great potential modification for most any 6 or 8 cylinder engine, assuming it would make a significant difference.

The prices for premium today near my house were $3.95 and $3.79. Yikes.
