Upgrade to 07/08 Type S?

I am considering upgrading to a 07/08 type S, I would be trading in my 04 tl auto with 49k.

Any suggestions? Should i sell it privately or look for a trade-in?

Upgrading to a TL-S sounds like a great idea! Finding the right deal might take a little while though. I imagine you want low mileage so your probably looking to spend a little over $25K. Best bet is to sell your TL, you'll get more money then just trading it.

Do you owe anything or is it all paid off?

Just a sample of what I found on cars.com

i bought it last august, a bit rushed =\ i paid 20k cash.... at the time it had 39k...

I am hoping to get 20k for it..... its 49k w/navi. excellant condition.

25k for a low mileage 07/08 type S would be IDEAL!

Certainly depends on your desire whether to spring for the TL-s, so if that is your car of choice, look around for pricing. Usually selling outright is the way to go, but can be a bit of a hassle when buying another car, but if you buy the new car first, then sell yours, lot of money to lay out and hope yours moves quickly at a decent price. Sell yours first, then you'll hope the car that you want is still available. If sold outright you'll be paying tax on the entire price of the new vehicle, when on trade in you'll only pay the tax on the difference. Ideally, if you knew someone that wanted your car, and have a new one lined up, have the dealer do a courtesy trade. If the buyer will pay $15k for the car, trade it in and have the dealer mark $15k as trade in off the negotiated new car price. They will then do all the paperwork to put the new car in your name and the trade in the other party's name. Might cost a few dollars, but best of both worlds as long as the buyer has the money.

10K miles a year, not bad! I see you don't drive the hell out of it, like me I don't think you'll get 20K for it. Manheim Auto auction is selling the 04's for about $13-14K so your looking at like $16-17. Has any dealer giving you a trade in price yet? But again it will be a low offer

I just noticed your in NYC, got any friends with dealer licenses? If your paying cash, hopefully you'll sell the 04TL, it will be much easier and you can find something you like. I'm surprised there aren't a lot of TL-S in NYC, pretty big place

The black TL-S you just looked at, check out the passenger side, looks like a diaper on the floor lol it's not but that's what I thought when I first saw it

There are actually many type S, but they are all asking for 30k, and the condition isnt even 30k worth! lol

Well if i can sell it for 19-20k, and the new car if i can get it for 25k, yea i will most likely pay cash.

u know what i really want.....07/08 5 series

I wouldn't put too much hope in selling your 04 TL for 20k. Good luck.

Your right, I meant to say that lol $30K is a little too high.

You never know until you try, put the TL out there for like $19999 and see what happens. Anything can happen.

A 5 series huh I'd probably never buy it in NYC. I've seen too many pictures/stories/rants about parking and driving in NYC. You need a moped or a nice Yamaha R1

parking isnt much of an issue for me.....at work i park in the lot, and around my home there is always parking, the REAL issue is the god damn potholes and f****D up roads, but no car is immune to that....perhaps a SUV, but those are def outta my price range...and if i get a bike, RIP....i already have 18 points on my license, i have a bit of a speeding problem....=\

Haha I just got done paying off 4 speeding tickets, it's expensive as hell!! I remember one time we took a rental Ford Explorer on a trip to NYC and after the weekend that Explorer was beat to shit! Every possible suspension noise was heard lol we didn't really care about swerving around potholes.

Just be careful-take your time about finding the right car at the right price.

The 07/08 Type S is for sure a nice upgrade from an 04 but unfortunately for future buyers the price on them has sky rocketed. Almost EVERY Type S in the Chicagoland area is low $30's with only some 07's in the high $20's now. Good for Type S owners but bad for buyers.
Might take some time to find one with a decent price but one will come along for sure.

An 04 with Navi you can likely sell for 14-16K. I just bought my '04 for 13.5
