Update on my TL Service

A while back I listed a bunch of things that I needed to get done to my '06 6-spd. Things ranged from fender damage (I'm the dumbass on that one), low battery charge, and some issue with the throw from 2nd to 3rd not taking.

I ended getting serviced at the dealer in Hoffman Estates, IL. Good overall experience.

Wanted to pass on a few things for anyone else who may have issues like mine.

The fender damage was right in the middle of the pressed crease in the rear drivers fender. The guys at the dealership suggested letting the paintless dent removal group they use have a go at it. Was told that I could expect roughly 90% success. Results were easily 100%. No waves and the crease is as clean as the day she was brought home. Mind you, I did have to get it painted as I had some good scratches in there too... so they may have done more than thier typical protocol knowing that it needed paint... but it is a lot better than having that entire pannel taken off and redone. Kudos to them. Also had them clean up my right side rocker... God only knows how I got that scraped up... but it's fixed now.

Then my gearbox. Apparently I'm not the only person who had issues with the throw from 2nd to 3rd. I'd have to either double clutch or go 2-4. It sucked because 3rd is a really fun gear in the car... and I was tired of getting blown off by Max-holes. So, the initially were going to put in new trany-fluid. I guess that was one of the fixes, but they ended up pulling the gear box out and putting in a new one. So, if anyone has the same issue and has had the fluid replaced, I'd still take your car back in and see if you can get the gearbox replaced. I guess the fluid trick works, but it's not as long term as they originaly thought... or so I gather.

Said and done, $750 for body work and paint. New gear box, small paint chips and battery all replaced under warranty.

Thanks to those of you who responded to my initial questions.

Did you go to Muller? Thats where I'll be taking my TL too!

When you say "small paint chips .... replaced under warranty", what do you mean?

Yes, Muller is where it was done. Worked with a guy named Mike.

Small paint chips weren't per say "replaced." More like fixed . Poor wording on my part. So, yes... there were a couple of very minor paint chips from road damage here and there that they touched up / buffed out. When I took the car in for all that service we weren't sure what route we would take with the fender damage so at the time of the quote, I was quoted for:
* Oil Change
* Check Battery and replace if neccessary
* Fix the gearbox issue
* Touch up / buff out paint chips

The initial quote was $38 (or so) for the oil. Everything else was covered. I do have the 100K warranty on the car as well. Not sure if that means anything as far as my quote goes.

I was later quoted for the fender damage as the paintless dent guys come in on Tuesday (I think). I originally took the car in on a Saturday.

Best of luck to you. I would recommend working with them. I originally purchased the car from the dealer in Palatine. I used the Costco program (invoice + $1000 no questions asked) and they were the only ones in the area who participated. I kind of feel burned by them though. I specifically told the salesperson the other car that I was looking at... really is was the TL or the Audi S4. I told him I wanted a mid-sized 4-door that's overpowered. Ended up with the '06 TL and a week later the '07 TL S was on the showroom floor. I guess that the salesperson did the right thing and closed the deal, but after what I told him, and I presume that he had information about the TL S at the time, he should have told me to either order one or wait a week.

That'd be "per se."
