The UOA Thread

For those of you interested in UOA and extended oil change intervals, I offer you my latest UOA. This was on Mobil 1 0w40 over a 10,868 mile, 1-year interval. The first UOA (right column) was for Mobil 1 5w20 over a 6-month, 8198 mile interval. Oil filter for both was the Purolator Pure 1.

I wanted to run 0w40 and I wanted to try an extended interval, so I did both. The oil was changed immediately after the timing belt change and valve adjustment. Will keep an eye on the iron, but not really worried about that. Next UOA will be on Honda's 5w20 syn blend which is in the crankcase now. Interval will be whatever the MID says (down to 0%).

And for you K&N haters, note the low silicon levels once again. And I live on a dirt road.

Here's the UOA for Honda Syn-Blend 5w20. Still scratching my head as to why copper and iron jumped up only on the M1 0w40 interval. Copper and iron are back to normal ranges, as they've been for all intervals except the 0w40. Oil filter for all is the Purolator Pure One.

And FYI, I live on a dirt road and run a K&N air filter, so all you K&N haters note that the silicon is below average for all my intervals. (The Universal Averages column is based on 5K miles).

I'm not sure how to interpret this. Kind of a newb on oil analysis. What's the takeaway here? I'm guessing high iron is bad, since it's likely comming from wear on the engine. What else is significant?

OP - Thanks for sharing this and keeping it updated. I too am not sure what the takeaway is from your report, but I always was curious about the Blackstone analysis and what they reported.
