Unofficial How to: Remove Transponder From 04-06 key thread!
Yup. I got my Switchblade keys in. I am a very impatient person. So I decided to hack up an existing key that I had for the car because it was Saturday and the dealership was closed. It actually came out just fine. Removed the transponder and put it in the new key successfully. Here are quick tips and pics. No extensive detailed walk through. Just figured you guys would want to know just in case you got adventurous.
Steps:
1. Get key that currently is programmed to your car.
2. Get a serrated knife or small skinny saw (I used a SOG serrated knife)
3. Pop Acura symbol out of center of key...if you want.
4 Hold key with a hand cloth or small rag/towel to keep from cutting into hand. Or just use a counter mounted vise
5. Saw the sides of the key.
6 Use 2 sets of plyers to pull key apart.
7 Remove transponder plastic holder
8. Remove transponder from holder.
9. Take switchblade key apart and install the new transponder.
10. Reuse the old Acura emblem and personalize your jewelry!!!
Pics. Enjoy

nice pictures. You know what you could have done was just cut the rubber off the key, so you still have the whole key intact and then just pull the rubber apart, and the chip is in the middle of the key as you realized.

^his directions say to cut off the rubber but it looks like he twisted it with the plyers to break the seal and then rip off the rubber?
in the switchbade key how did you get the key off to get to the immobilzer? i understand how to take it apart in your 1st pic with it, but howd you get to the immobilzer part. after that do you just swap them? thanks
if its that easy, maybe ill just do that instead of getting it programmed for 60bucks..
how long it take you?

dremmel would accomplish this much more cleanly I would think. where does the chip go in the new key? someone post a how-to swap the metal key portion of our key into the switchblade, that would be nice!

yes this sounds like a better way..however i was at my office..only had a few tools. we twisted the key to crack the plastic head. I would have just sawed the key but i had no clue where the transponder was exactly and i didn't want to saw it.

in this picture i'm using the screw driver to point to the transponder on the switchblade key. the key has 4 screws that hold it together. one on the back near the key ring loop. and 3 inside holding the key onto the housing. these have loctite on them..they are very hard to get out without stripping.

I have an idea, could you take both keys apart and have someone that's good at welding cut and weld the old key onto the new one and grind it down to be flush? is there feasibly any way to switch the old metal key body into the new key?
What did FLBUSA use to mill these keys? I sincerely doubt it was the only machine of it's kind in the friggin universe, we have to find someone that can do this!
