I dont care if anyone thinks its ricey or whatever, but I really want blue underglow. I tried searching for it on this site but cant find anything about it. Does anyone know the differences between neon vs LED? and price? if anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it.. thanks a lot

LED gives a more dramatic lighting effect. CCFL will give you a more soft light.

Can't help you with price, but if you're going to do underbody lighting, I'd strongly recommend LEDs over CCFL tubes.

I remember seeing a group of ricers pass me on the highway hooked up with underbody lighting and i thought it was awesome, looked pretty cool to me.

I spose LED's would work, as long as its a nice even glow and not overpowered like a flash light.

check and see if they are legal in your state/province first... I know where I live that they are for the most part, illegal

I'm pretty sure at least blue would be illegal anywhere.

Rice.. but I would go with LED's if you did.. Green? Yellow? Pink? Blah.. they just killed any option I would ever go with..

An Excerpt from TX Law:

(b) Except as expressly authorized by law, a person may not operate or move equipment or a vehicle, other than a police vehicle, with a lamp or device that displays a red light visible from directly in front of the center of the equipment or vehicle.
(c) A person may not operate a motor vehicle equipped with a red, white, or blue beacon, flashing, or alternating light unless the equipment is:
(1) used as specifically authorized by this chapter; or

(2) a running lamp, headlamp, taillamp, backup lamp, or turn signal lamp that is used as authorized by law.

neon is a gas in a glass tube, it can break fairly easy.

leds, will last longer, and not break.

I just noticed you are eighteen. meh, don't like it. But open up some car magazines and you're bound to find some companies with neon lights.

I never really understood why people do underbody glows, unless it is a car show and you want to get rid of shadows with subtle white lighting. Even in games like NFS or more recently Midnight Club: LA, I would throw up on the sight of underbody glows

unauthorized lighting...

I'm considering some underbody LEDs, but only for show purposes.

When I was young, back in high school, yeah, probably would do this, underglow... cuz, that was what most people use to do in the 90s...

I wouldn't do it to my TL-S, however, I wonder what would it look like with a red red underglow.... anybody? Pic to share?

I agree

I did puddle lights on my car though and it ended up being a disaster. The led's were fairly cheap and the install was fairly easy, although I did not do all of it, but the weather conditions in CT made these a problem for me. Too much snow and salt on the roads here and the first time we had a big storm 2 of them went out. When I checked there was just so much snow packed up under my a spec kit it was horrible. I fixed them and the next snow storm we had another one went out. This was a failed mod on my part. I guess I should have thought about the weather a little more before I did this....

I like the puddle lights on the Lexus there but I don't know if i would do that to a TL. I think this car is too sporty looking for something like that. And neon underglow is too rice looking.

Just make an observation as to the age group of this thread ... enough said.

And I'm with LoveMyTL-S, puddle lights before underglows for sure.

I would do a very very subtle soft white glow under skirts on my WDP...

The puddle lights make the car look like a spaceship, and ricer leds... well... like an xmas tree on wheels.

yah I am working on putting the lights on my car now.. and took everyones advice as far as keeping them protected.. They are going to be recessed into my sideskirts rather than stuck on the bottom.. and i made a shell for them to protect them.. even have all the wires protected.. so hopefully that will be good enough.. driver side done.. need to finish passenger side now..

I like the Spaceship look haha.. plus the brabus mercedes have these

I have blue under mine https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/led-lights-644240/

The best part about most LED kits it that you get the option of 7 colors so you can switch it up. You should know though that blue and red are illegal in all states. I have been pulled over for it three times, talked myself out of them, but ya just so you know.

In the 15 years that I've been involved in imports I have never liked this kind of mod, even in 1997 this wasn't cool, just more accepted. Anyways, its your car if you like it do it.

I'm not completely against a glow, but when you have an intense spot it just looks dumb...

All I could think about while I was reading this thread:
