underbody coating?

Me and a buddy were talking about how to take care of our cars in the winter and he mentioned that there is a certain coating i can get sprayed underneath of my car to protect it from being damaged by the salt. Can anyone tell me for how much and were i can get this done? thanks!

It's made mostly of snakeoil and bullshit. Dealerships sell it.

Just wash your car periodically, and don't let any bare metal get exposed to the elements and you'll be good.

My understanding is that it is not needed anymore since the frame and exposed parts are coated during the assembly.

I wash my car like every other day, in winter. But make sure that the car wash. 1st. has a monthly price break. I pay $34 a month. 2nd. That the car wash has a powerful under-body spray. You do this it wont rust. I live in Minnesota. So I know from what I am a talken.......

Undercoating also does a great job of quieting road noise inside the cabin.

i dont like the whole car wash idea, i know it might sound a little crazy but even in the winter i will wash my car by hand, until i see a flake of snow, and when that happens its time for my car to go into the garage and sit there till the weather clears up. thanx!

Undercoating sprays can also block off vent and drain holes worsening the problem your trying to prevent.
