I must've slowed down quite a bit, but it went so fast I've really got no idea. I drove to the next lit area and looked at the car ... not even a scratch. I think he actually hit the headlight (which are monstrous on the Pilot). I then drove home and examined it again in disbelief...

really sucks man. dont sweat it, I hit one in a very similar situation. He rolled up the hood, smacked the windshield and rolled off. Unfortunately I did not do a good enough job and he hobbled away. No damage, well a little fur in the front grill.

I fear one day I'm going to smack one of those little bucks, too. I see them all the time on my commute...Walking at night, lying dead in the road the next morning. I've learned, though, that there are almost always more around than I can see. If I see one or more, I know there are probably more that I don't see just waiting to pounce into the road in front of me. I nearly stop when I see them and hope I don't get stacked by someone from behind. It's best to roll slowly by them in case they decide to bolt into your path. I do love the HIDs, though, for helping me spot them in the road sooner.

I found that flashing the headlights and honking never made them get out of my way. However, dumping the clutch and revving the engine seemed to usually make them scatter. Maybe it was an unfamiliar noise to them or it sounded like a snarl (I wish!). In any case, that's what gave them motivation for me.

Good luck with the repairs.

That's a fast deer!

It's amazing how much damage something as soft as a deer can do.
