Type-S vs 3.5 TSX

Not sure if this question has been asked (Had trouble finding) or Im posting in the wrong section. (My apologize) But I simply would like to know your personal opinions and differences about the two.

1-Performance (AMT)
2-Suspension
3-Main Difference
4- Personal Opinion

1. Performance wise, the TSX may perform a bit better since it's a newer car. I think they may weigh a bit less too, even the v6 model of the TSX.
2. I think the Type S has a stiffer suspension
3. Main difference is the age of the cars obviously. The tech in the '13 would be far greater than the TL. I'd probably say that the '13 TSX outperforms the TL-S in just about every category by paper.

Feel wise, I have driven a '13 TSX and it feels cramped compared to my TL. Everything is just so "in your face" and I hate it.

4. I prefer my 08 TL over a '13 TSX any day. Looks better too imo.

actually the 2nd gen 3.5l TSX weighs just as much as we do. they're porky at 3400lbs.
They have ALL the stuff we do, meaning the same engine, the same or pretty close to transmission, same suspension as we do.

the type-s will have a little extra bells and whistles like brembo brakes and stiffer sportier shocks. type-s also comes with a manual transmission.

if auto to auto, it will be a very close race. neck in neck and with who ever gets the jump, winning.
it can go either way, if tsx v6 gets jump it'll win and vice versa.

The TL-S would win EVERY TIME if it were equipped with the 6 manual transmission, as its a lighter car and has better gearing than the awful dreaded 5 automatic transmission.

1. I (think) the v6 tsx still have 5spd AT but if they get the 6spd like 2012+ TL advatage to to TSX. We are compare AT tsx vs AT TL-S. MT TL-S is superior to TSX no question asked.

2. TL-S suspension is hand down supperior to tsx, with right tires tl put down 0.93g despite the FWD disadvantage. 0.93g is the same as STI and Evo. GT-R put down 0.96g. I grew up in CT doing moutain run along with some scca class in lime rock race park, i was able to whoop some 5.0 mustang during cornering.

3. Tl came with all bell and whistle meanwhile tsx you have to get the tech package even to have the els surround sound. The premium sound system in the tsx is plain shitty.

4. I would personally take the TL-S.

If you plan to get the v6 mind as well go with rhe 2012 tl fwd.

my personal opinion; if getting an automatic is to get the TSX as it is newer and has nicer amenities.

pretty much the same suspension can be found in the 3.5 TSX.

I drove one back in 2012 and the rear and body roll tend to be more noticeable more than my TL.

^yes, but that can be fixed with modding.
the important thing is that it retains the double wishbone front suspension.

Honda's double wishbone is one of the best in the biz!
this is what makes the car handle well.

you can fix the body roll by adding stiffer springs/shock combo.
changing out front and rear sway bar.

Thanks guys!! You were all helpful!! I just finished driving an 07 Type S and it runs like a dream- i did hear some noise under the hood, i suspect its the belt not not sure if a/c had anything to do with it but makes me wonder if I could use that as leverage.. On another note do any of you guys know what the maintenance cost a year is for a type s ?

Off topic once again.. 07 type s 91k miles wants 15.5k mvp is 14.4
Realistically speaking, what would be a sweet deal for this baby?

like I suspected....

its not what we want, its about what you want.
it sounds like your mind is made up on a type-s.

fuck the tsx.

a great deal on that TL-S would be whatever you are willing to pay for it.
a fair deal is reached when both parties are happy with the price.

so, if you are not happy with $15.5k, talk him down. duh!

I started looking up tsx because its damn near impossible to find a type s in my area. Finally came across one today and got lucky enough to test drive. Dont be a ball buster lol throw me a number

i'll throw out 12k as a low ball #.

then both you and the seller can negotiate to something fair.

I was looking at one with the same amount of miles same year being sold for 13.5 but it was sold 2 days ago. I would pay 14.2 at most since at excellent condition its listed at 14.4 but the car is in good not excellent condition.

Im taking my mechanic on saturday but it sounded like a belt to me, and lastly i noticed a slight thudding noise when releasing the brakes from a full stop

sounds like you know what you are doing.

get it inspected then offer 14.2, see what the seller says.

Private sale or dealer? That makes a diff in value.

justnspace, how does the chassis compare between the two? Curious since great handling starts with a good chassis, then suspension system. TSX is newer. I'd still pick the type s, but naturally I'm biased. I do like the TSX a lot though, my friend has one, sadly it's the 4 banger.

I agree. Just put a beefier rear sway bar on the TSX, and voila, TL-S feel. It's a very affordable mod to do also.

I just checked- an auto TL-S weighs 3680lbs. A 3.5 TSX w/ tech package weights 3479lbs. 200lbs difference. It's not huge, but I bet it's noticeable.

I still can't believe they didn't offer the V6 TSX with the 6MT. That would have been a decent car, but as it stands OP, definitely go with the Type-S.

family guy; as you know, with each iteration improvements and advancements are made.

the chassis body type for both TSX and TL-S is an all steel unit-body.

and as I'm reading the spec sheet of both, the automatic transmissions are the same...they have the same gearing, with a final gear ratio of 4.312 for both.

correction; according to the spec sheet from honda, they both weigh the same at 3680.

the 3400lb model is the I4 engine.

Yes, they're definitely very similar.
It's in part why the TL was going to be axed down the road, the V6 TSX directly competes with it since it was offered in 2010. The luxury is similar and performance identical. Dimensions are also very similar, the only thing left is the styling and that's taste more than anything else. They ended up merging the TSX and the TL in the TLX anyway.

Interesting. I guess edmunds.com is full of it then. You're able to select various trim models on their page and they apparently give you the specs for those respective trims. I thought the TSX was a bit smaller then the 3G TL though... something isn't adding up.

according to spec sheet, the TSX is shorter than the TL by like a few MM.
same width.

so, it makes sense that it would be the same weight with the same engine+tranny combo.

That's the thing, it's barely shorter, like not actually noticeable shorter but in reality it feels tinier than the TL. It's all about the styling I imagine!

But really, maybe your mind just plays tricks on you and you think it's smaller because the TSX was always smaller than the TL. I dunno. Microwave.
