That's retarded. If he's a taxi driver using a TL as his taxi, he needs to rethink his priorities. Using an 18MPG, premium fuel-burning pig to haul people around all day? Right..

Are you sure that's a taxi? All I see is 770-xxx-xxxx and 99 in the back. If it is, poor TL, I'm sure the driver is loving every second of driving it.

Actually...not a bad idea at all for the guy. I am sure he is writing off every car payment, and fuel costs as a business expense..so....not bad at all. but still...

you guys are reading way too much into it... in NYC private co's run all sorts of cars... and in NYC you can only tell a taxi is a taxi by the "Taxi Limousine Commission" license plate

to date at my job I have seen the following used as taxi besides the lincoln town car and crown vic
1. mb s550 amg
2. maybach
3. 2008+ accord v6
4. lexus ls450 hybrid
5. cady escalade
6. lincoln mkz
7. lincoln navigator
8. toyota camry 4cyl & 6cyl

all but 2 have a higher msrp (3&8)when released new

Hmmm what is different vs the V8 Crown Vics that get 14-15 mpg or worse in city driving?

At least he is in comfort and has a nice looking car vs a yellow crown vic or similar.

Montreal, Quebec is very similar...
It's like, any car is a taxi in Montreal.
Because of that, I've seen my share of many different taxi-vehicles.

What is cool, though, is that we don't have a lot or any stickers.. just the taxi thing that goes on the roof.

I'll have to keep my eyes out for this guy...lol. I for one would not do this to my baby. But maybe he is making $$ and doesn't mind the mileage and people in and out of the car.

i don't think that's a taxi .. and if it is .. it doesn't look like one .. seems more of a business car that someone stuck stickers on (for advertisement) .. just my

If I had to spend all day in a car why not spend it in a car to my liking. Plus the navi is an extra bonus.

He should lower it and put a bad ass sound system in it. Charge a little more and everyone is a winner! haha... Everyone would remember his car and would always want to ride in it.

The Vic's are typically the police interceptor package which comes with a vinyl back seat amongst other things, which aids in the durability of the interrior of the cab. Also able to accept the center divider easier when the hack companies take it and turn it into a cab. Also has upgraded alternators, better tranny, more powerful engine, beefed up suspension, etc.

Like Al said, in NYC, you see all sorts of vehicles as yellow cabs. The NYC TLC (Taxi and Limosine Commission) has approved the following models as "yellow cabs", or "Medallion Taxi Cabs"

2009 Ford Crown Victoria Stretch
2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid
2009 Ford Escape Hybrid
2009 Mercury Mariner Hybrid
2009 Mazda Tribute Hybrid
2009 Honda Civic Hybrid
2009 Lexus RX400H Hybrid
2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid
2009 Saturn Vue Hybrid
2009 Toyota Prius Hybrid
2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid
2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
2009 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel
2008 Autovan modified Toyota Sienna (wheelchair accessible)
2007 Eclipse Mobility modified Dodge Caravan (wheelchair accessible)
2008 Freedom Motors modified Toyota Sienna (wheelchair accessible)

As far as "livery" cabs go, which are also governed by the NYC TLC, they can be any car you want, like Al mentioned above, there are some pretty nice variations out there, however those cabs cannot be "hailed" frmo the street (at least that's what the law says, do they follow it? Not always), you have to call them up and arrange a pick up. They also tend to be more expensive.

There is no difference in the engine or trans in a Crown Vic PI, or a standard crown vic. It's the same Ford 4.6L, and the same 4R70W trans. The only difference in the trans is the computer is flashed a little different for the shift points.
