Type S Seats

I don't know if this is possible or not but has anybody tried to take Type S seats and put them in a pre-07 TL? I kinda like the whole two-tone look and wonder if this might work out...?

I have moved this thread out of Performance Parts and Mods. Please read the announcement: The "Modifications" in "Performance Parts & Modifications".

At any rate, you should have a better chance of a response in the main 3G forum.

I'm sure they would be compatible. Just the stictching and color is different, and the backrest side bolsters are beefier. Should be a pretty easy switch. YOu just have to find and spill the cash for the type-s seats. I have taken the seats out of my 04 and 06tl and it was easy.

dealer or salvage yard would be your best bet.

Yeah but the dealer will probably rip me off to get a set of the seats. I don't know if I should do the front only or do both? What do you guys think? It might look weird if the back is just plain ebony when the front is Type S status. I really want these seats!

Dude, you really are "reaching" on this mod. As I've always said, with enough money and energy any mod is possible. this one is 99% money (lots), 1% energy. I'm very confident the seats will bolt right on.

Considering you have ebony, you could probably get away with just the fronts, but it would look wierd since both fronts and rears of the TL-s have that 2 tone color.

If you can't find someone who will trade with you, you better be prepared to get your checkbook out and buy new. You're talking a multiple thousand dollar investment for a new set of bucket, and if you're considering any other "upgrades", you might SHOULD consider trade in.

Salvage yards are no good. IF you can find a TL-s in the yard, they are thier becasue they've been in a wreck. In a wreck (bad enough to put the car in the junkyard), the side airbags usually blow. Side air bags are in the seat... hence wasted seat. If you find a TL-s with unblown airbags in the seat, now you've got a junkyard monkey handling the shipping, usually resulting in ruining of the seat in shipment. Most yards won't ship seats, freighting stuff is too much a PITA.

Not too mention, it's 2007, and you're looking for 2007 parts in jyard... It takes YEARS for enough people to wrap enough of these cars around a tree to find a couple of donors. I have a parts website I frequent that lists and catalog all the cars in the yards of about 4000 "recyclers". Not one TL-S in any of those lots yet.

Keep at it, but recognize this is not gonna be a cheap mod, at all, even used you're looking at over $1500. I just looked at my recycler web-site. Used 2005 seats with a good airbag are $6-750 before shipping. $400 for a blown airbag (needs a new airbag and seat skin)... See what I'm sayin?

To each his own, but that's ghetto...
Sparco's belong in race cars and rock crawler trucks.
To remove the 5 way adjustble leather seats with lumbar support, driver memory, and AIRBAGS to install an uncomfortable plastic bucket with little to no adjustability... and you'd have to create a custom fab to make it fit. (see: Accuratein's install)... well you see where I'm going, doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

They're uncomfortable for longs drives (very restrictive), unsafe (no airbags, and a lashup mounting), and quite frankly don't with the TL.

Save the Sparco's for the offroad STI's

These are just my opinions though, your money.

Want the look? Try KATZKIN or COVERKING or LEATHERSEATS or any of the hundreds of guys that make custom fit leather covers for any seat. You can do that for around $700-800 (F&R) as long as you don't go crazy with options.

However if you want the side bolsters like the TLS seats, you're kinda stuck with buying a new set of seats from the dealers or finding a set from a totaled TLS at a junkyard (GOOD LUCK).

Bolsters are bigger/beefier. New frame, foam, and leather (maybe new airbag too) = new seat...

Perhap in the rear though. Still crazy expensive.
