Type-S Production Numbers

some like it stock
i spent about 2 weeks looking for a type-S on autotrader/cars.com when searching for mine (last month), basically all over the east cost and midwest. i would say the least common color is MRP. KBP is also fairly rare but saw several of those and only like 2 MRPs the whole time. fair amount of the rest, less of the CGP though.
there were maybe 2 6MTs, one black, one blue (which sold before i even called the dealer).
got lucky calling a local dealer about a 5AT 07 and they told me they just got an 6MT 08 NBP...

there is a rediculous number of base tl's in the albany, ny area... not as many tl-s's but my NBP has at least 2 sisters, and there are a couple silver and one KBP in the immidiate area too

I have a 07 MRP TypeS. I have only seen one other MRP (any model) on the road.. I live in Omaha. There was one Base MRP TL when I bought my TypeS though. Not sure if that's the one I saw on the road.
I love the color. Just love how the taillights blend in with it perfectly!

Nalek,
Wish you were up in the northeast area, we could have a mini MRP Type-S meet...I don't see many at all.

why can't honda just make these numbers more accessible, I see so many tl-s here in Vancouver, BC and surrounding cities that it makes me wonder if they made more tl-s than base tl's for 2008.

Sorry to revive this thread, but this info doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Very odd.
According to Wikipedia only 1 in 40 regular TL's sold were manual.
Based on the national searches I've been doing for a TL-S w/a manual transmission, I have to think only a couple thousand were even produced.
All of them currently for sale in the NE are NBP, ASM or CBP.
I really want WDP/Ebony, but I just found a MRP/Ebony 2007 w/36k that is peaking my interest. This has no be a very rare car.

Ok I have literally looked through all 494 threads in this section that involve "TL Type-S Production Numbers" and this is the one that got the closest to an answer...I hate digging up a 2 year old thread but its better then creating a new one...
Did anyone ever figure out a way to get production numbers?

Back in 07' my dealer had 3 silver TL's with auto and a blue 6spd MT. I chose silver. I know of a carbon bronze TLS a 1/2 mile away from my house & another silver TLS 3 miles away. I don't see many on the road, but when I have I've noticed most are dirty & not clean.

Put me in for three Type S's lol.
-07 KBP w/taupe 5at
-08 NBP w/ebony 6mt
-07 NBP w/ebony 6mt
I can vouch for how rare the 6mt Type S's are. Both of my 6mt's I had to fly out of state to purchase and drive home.
I would love to get some Type S build numbers.

Has Honda/Acura ever said why they dont have them?
Anyone have any idea how to go about figuring them out? I mean I am up for database manipulation if I can find the data...

^--- haha, if it was only as simple as:
select x.color, x.transmission, x.year, count(*)
from acura.tl x
where x.model = 'S'
and x.year in ('2007','2008')
group by x.color, x.transmission, x.year

Found this on Honda-Tech:
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN, 1981+)
====================
The first three characters uniquely identify the manufacturer of the vehicle using the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) code. There are 2 methods for determining the WMI.
WMI Method 1:
1st Character: Country of Origin
A = South Africa, Ivory Coast
B = Angola, Kenya, Tanzania
C = Benin, Madagascar, Tunisia
D = Egypt, Morocco, Zambia
E = Ethiopia, Mozambique
F = Ghana, Nigeria
J = Japan
K = Sri Lanka, Israel, South Korea
L = China
M = India, Indonesia, Thailand
N = Pakistan, Turkey
P = Phillipines, Singapore, Malaysia
R = United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Vietnam
S = Great Britain, Germany, Poland
T = Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal
U = Denmark, Ireland, Romania, Slovakia
V = Austria, France, Spain, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Estonia
W = Germany
X = Bulgaria, Greece, Netherlands, Russia, Luxembourg
Y = Belgium, Finland, Malta, Sweden, Norway, Belarus, Ukraine
Z = Italy, Slovenia, Lithuania
1 = USA
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands
4 = USA
5 = USA
6 = Australia
7 = New Zealand
8 = Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela
9 = Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Trinidad & Tobago
2nd Character: Make/Manufacturer
A = Audi, Jaguar
B = BMW, Dodge

Some manufacturers use the third character as a code for a vehicle category (e.g., bus or truck), a division within a manufacturer, or both.
3rd Character: Vehicle Type
F = Honda Motorcycle, Built in USA
G = Honda Passenger Vehicle, Built in USA/Canada/Mexico/China
H = Acura Passenger Vehicle, Built in Canada
H = Honda Passenger Vehicle, Built in UK
J = Honda Light Duty Truck, Built in Canada

S = Honda Passenger Vehicle, Built in UK
1 = Honda Motorcycle, Built in Mexico
2 = Honda Motorcycle, Built in Japan
3 = Honda ATV, Built in Japan
4 = Acura Passenger Vehicle, Built in Japan
WMI Method 2: The first character still represents the country of origin. The second character no longer represents the Make/Manufacturer, and the third character no longer represents the vehicle type. Instead, the second and third characters are combined with the first character to make a generic code.
1st through 3rd Characters:

The 4th through 9th characters in the VIN are the Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS). This is used, according to local regulations, to identify the vehicle type and may include information on the platform used, the model, and the body style. Each manufacturer has a unique system for using this field. Most manufacturers since the 1980s have used the 8th digit to identify the engine type whenever there is more than one engine choice for the vehicle.

You have the 21,359th '08 Acura TL-S with an automatic transmission trim level 5(??) manufactured in Marysville, OH.
However, we don't know if the last 6 digits are contingent on any of the previous characters like if it's only based on 19U or does it take UA7 into account.

Two most common TL-S colors: WDP and NBP
Two rarest TL-S colors I've been told: MRP and CBP
I've never seen another CBP 6MT TL-S in person, other than my own 2008:
039028 = the last 6 digits of my VIN.

Most common are:
NBP, WDP, and ASM, and CBP. From my own personal sitings here around Chicago the most common are NBP and CBP.
The two rarest colors without a doubt are MRP and KBP.
Carbon Bronze is actually a pretty common TL-S color (and even more so on the base TL). Great color though and it looks outstanding on the TL-S.

Thats definately not true as far as CBP being one of the rarest TL-S colors. You are right about about the others though. Basically it goes like this.

First 3 = WMI
4/5/6 = Car Line & Engine - Chassis Code
7 = Body Type/Transmission
8 = Trim Level
9 = Check Digit
10 = Model Year
11 = Assembly Plant
12 = Market Specific Number
12/13/14/15/16/17 = Production Sequence
So
19UUA76538A021359 breaks down like this...
WMI = 19U
Car Line & Engine - Chassis Code = UA7
Body Type/Transmission = 6
Trim Level = 5
Check Digit = 3
Model Year = 8
Assembly Plant = A
Market Specific Number = 0
Production Sequence = 021359
