Type-S Prices

I have a 2006 tl base w/nav and 60k miles, amazing condition, etc. etc. I would love to have a 07 type-S with around the same mileage but I keep running into the same problem. Dealerships want to give me 14-15k for my car but insist their 07 tl-s is worth 24-25k. I know all the differences between these two cars and no I don't think my car should be worth an even swap or anything like that...but does anyone else think that Type-S model prices are to inflated? I could be crazy but would love to know what everyone else thinks.

In the past, typically, there was about a $2000 or so differntial between the Base and the TL-S. PLUS the extra year(s) and mileage depreciation.

So that's part of it.

But another large part in your case is the trade-in/buy differential. They want your trade--in at bottom dollar wholesale and are selling their TL-S at top dollar retail. That gap (wholesale to retail) is adding a good bit.

Money-wise your best bet is probably private sale of your car and purchase via private sale a TL-S. That will reduce the wholesale to retail differential to near 0 and leave you mostly with the model differntial. If you can't do both via private sale, even doing one or the other private sale should help.

No matter what way you look at it the TL-S are holding their values VERY well. I have been considering looking into getting another Type S (sold my 07 S last year and miss it), and I could not believe my eyes when I saw 08 type S's with 20K+ miles listed at $29,999!!!!!! I guess the 07's would be your best bet since as far as I know there is zero differences between the two years.
For a clean low mileage Type S expect to pay mid 20's out the door. Thats just what they go for.

just so you guys know i was in the market for a TL a couple weeks ago. My budget was about 17.5k OTD. I found a few base TL's in the price range, but then one day I saw a TL type s with 71k miles for 16k. talked to the seller and test drove the car, and planned on buying it and TOLD HIM. however he showed another guy the car right after i saw it and the guy had cash right away so he sold it to him instead. so i thought, "back to looking for base TL..." then next week I see an ad on acurazine for a black 2007 tl type s and its local to me. contacted the guy right away and in a couple days drove it home for 17k.

Keep looking... I picked my 08 TL-S up with 40k miles for 22k last month. It seems like a lot of them are coming off of lease right now.

Good luck!

Got ours for 19k but it had just been reduced from 23k.

Every other type-s I ran across was around 24k.
