Type S Power steering pump worth it ?

My rack and pinion is shot and my power steering pump is leaking through the body pretty nicely.

I found this place through google that sells remanufactured steering racks OEM for $115 with a lifetime warranty after you send back your old one.

http://www.steeringrackandpinion.com...ck-and-pinion/

My steering is sloppy as hell and it darts all over the place unless i hold the steering wheel with 2 hands and this is after getting a wheel alignment even.

I've changed everything on the front end so im hoping this new steering rack is it. I have 153,000 miles and im the 2nd owner so i can only assume its the original.

I've learned through searching the forum that there is no difference between type s steering rack and the regular so im not concerned with how firm that will be.

My question....

Im wondering if it's reallly that noticeable the increased firmness from the type s power steering pump. Or should i just replace the o-rings and seals on the base power steering pump I have now that's leaking ?

These TL's are bad about darting all over the place even if you have a good alignment. It takes a very specific detailed alignment in order to get rid of that darting nature but there was also a service bulletin for this issue too. (not a recall).

If you replace the rack, I would get the type-S rack because the numbers of turns from lock to lock is fewer.

If my steering pump was leaking with that many miles, I would buy a new one. But if you go to this website, it shows the typeS pump to be the same as the base TL. http://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/
The difference is in the "gear box" which is the "rack & pinion".

lastly, $115 with free shipping both ways sounds really cheap. And for a lifetime warranty, those are only as good as the company stays in business and I would wonder what they are doing to the reman'd rack.. It doesn't sound like much. So I am skeptical. But hey if you try it, let us know how it goes! haha We need pioneers!

check outer-tie rods, they tend to make the steering wheel sloppy when there damaged

Incorrect. Type S power steering pumps have a different part number than base TL's.

I can't comment on the difference between the PS pumps (if any), but I would spend the $8.50 on the O-Rings and do the overhaul. Assuming its just the seals and not the pump itself. Rockstar143 has an excellent DIY below with part numbers and everything. I did mine about 3 months ago; haven't had problems since. Might be worth a try before buying a new pump. Good luck OP!
